I've put some of my photos in 2 crafts fairs, (sold 2 the 1st show and 3 the 2nd). But I had several people admire my work and then say "You must have an expensive camera". I don't though, and I'd like to think my nice photos are due to my work, not an expensive camera!! What do you reply to people that say that to you? I'm not going to be rude to them but it IS annoying!!

Graciously say thank you and smile. You never know who will come back and buy. Everyone is a potential client.

50mm and 100mm work well for me. Canonl L glass. The 50 can be soft at times. Antique Hasselblad love the 85 and 125mm may have to find the 85 for the Canon 5d m3.

I do pro shooting and once in a while, a wedding. I have found that overall, women make the best wedding photographers because of their ability to work with the bride and mother-in-law, and their pic - taking seems to really get the "princess for the day...center of the universe" thing which many women rank as the best day of their lives. For guys, not so much....at least not the princess bit. Oh, I know, there are MANY excellent male wedding photographers who will probably bite my head off over my sexist(?) statements...... Anyway, I agree with the need to be explicit with regard to your services, including post-processing and number/type of photos delivered. I always do so in writing and include itemized costs for additional services beyond the "package". If your client is so hard to please now, a year before, wait until she is all stressed out (very real condition). Also know what you are going to do in case she doesn't like the photos afterward. Good luck, my friend.

Thank you, emotionally you may be correct! I find having my husband all dressed up as my assistant looking handsome, really helps with the fluffing and puffing of the dresses really calms the jitters down. Weddings are complicated!
I have one next month that is nuts, it's same sex female, wealthy, older, Wicca high priestess officiating, all in Tartens, kilts, goddesses, Celtic outside at a yacht club and the getaway vehicle is a restored schooner!! ALL WOMEN!!
I don't care how fussy they are, I just shot them a big number and made sure my insurance is paid up!!

[quote=TomballLegend]TEN-Four!!! My problem was Mothers In Law! Not mine---but one of the bride's to be. Funny thing was when I totally walked away from demanding, spoiled brat brides , I made more money from neighborhood parents and my candid shots of their kids and yard projects. Who needs the drama?![/quote

Totally agree! Neighborhood kids, pets etc. no drama! Just fun. I will do older couples as long as there is no mother of the bride or mother in law involved!!
It feels good to just say no!

Lots of insurance!! Non returnable retainer up front! Signed contract. Signed list of necessary must have shots. At least 1 good assistant and a second shooter. Keep the mother of the bride in the loop. If they are young she is probably paying your bill and will want to look thin and as gorgeous as the bride.
Sounds like you are in for a good time!! And at least 2000.00 for a package like that. Have fun with it. If you can't have fun doing your job then don't do it. She will sense the angst, it will ruin her day and she will sue you.

Personally I would have kept my end of the bargain then once the day was over and the bride makes contact announce that she was in breach of contract therefore she would not get anything. This way the couple still has an undisturbed day and the bad news and crisis is delayed.

The result in court finding would have been the same but all the guest who are likely potential clients would have seen you professionalism vs your 'temper'.

Great answer!! Always a class act. Personally I find the mother of the brides more terrifying since they are usually the one paying the bill.

You can find some of the silk and other fabrics at the local markets and make one!

I am going to do just that. Have a big charity ball coming up and I love to wear something exotic. Much more fun than a stuffy puffy gown!!

I use this image because it was the 1st time I had attempted to shoot fireworks. I used my Nikon D50, used Digital Photography Tutorials and a tripod and was thrilled to have the outcome I had.

It's beautiful. I stink at shooting firework. Just don't have the patience and get too excited watching them and don't shoot the camera.
