I have wondered why people on the Forum choose the particular "Avatars"they have chosen to post ? A photo of the individual lets us know who you are
but I would be interested to find out if there is a special meaning to non -human posts
objects , animals etc . Curious !

Sometimes, it's tough to figure out what the avatar is. When people change their avatar, I don't "recognize" them. If I don't look at the name, I don't know who they are. It's like facial recognition.

I was always told that only fool's name and face was seen in public places.

Well in my case it was easy; I'm about as photogenic as a clod of swamp grass and I like birds, so I took my mug shot down and put up one of my favorites. Sometimes it just might be that simple.

Mine has great meaning for me because I was a Navy Aircrewman for a long time.
I was stationed at the Naval Air Reserve Training Unit (NARTU), Naval Air Station, Alameda, California for four years on active duty and was an Aircrew Instructor and was qualified at both crew positions on S2F aircraft.
When I re-enlisted in the reserves I went to the Naval Air Station Moffett Field, Sunnyvale, California and crewed as a Flight Engineer on P3 aircraft as one of the initial members of VP91.
I have the handle of Fly Guy because I often frequented the "Famous" Buena Cafe, here in San Francisco, while on my way home in uniform and when a waitress asked my name and saw the "wings" she said oh "fly Guy".
Trust me. You'd rather see a picture of a red tail hawk (that I took) than a picture of me.

I guess I am always on the other side of the camera! And I tend to take a lot of nature shots - deer, birds, etc. And my little piebald deer is one of the most unique variation of a whitetail that I have or have ever seen. So...
Mine is a picture of sneakers on a teenage girl. She and her mother came into a diner where my buddy and I were having breakfast, sat down next to us. We both saw the sneakers at the same time, whipped out our P&S's, and got the same shot. The ladies had no idea what these two geezers were up to. I've wanted to use this shot for something.
I usually post a sample photo of a place that I have visited.
I don't have a picture that looks well of me when shrunk to fit the avatar space.
I've used samples of portraits taken of my practice model and people thought it was actually me (no intentional deceit) only because I enjoy portraiture and have also used my cats. In fact it may be time for a change again. ;-) I enjoy seeing what people use and usually figure this is what they like to shoot.
