Speaking of tightening screws. I have a Jobu that is constantly loosening. Is there a way to keep that from happening?
Thanks for any suggestions that you have!

Been planning this late September trip for some time and booking motel reservations this morning...keeping fingers crossed Covid 19 won't cause problems. Been looking/reworking past photos of the Tetons and this is one of my favorites!

Those are the prettiest sawtooth mountains in the USA I believe. I’ve been there once a few years ago would love to see them again. Thank you for posting your picture.

I recently posted a couple of shots of a Gymea lilly in bud, here https://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-654756-1.html. I was asked to post a shot of the flower when open. Well here it is. This is partially open and the only one in flower on the day. Enjoy.

That is one unusual looking flower for sure!!!!

I believe Affinity software Is a better product for you then PSE 2020. It’s only $49.99.

professional photographer. I’m looking to upgrade my post-processing abilities. I’m a Nikon shooter, Mac user, and currently use iPhotos and Polarr Pro. I’ve read previous posts which seems to separate the group into Capture One, Lumiar, and Photoshop CC. All of these seem to involve much more program options then someone like me appears to need. As a result, I’m looking at Photoshop Elements 2020. Is this a decent program or is there some critical reason I’m missing that is important for me to reconsider the other options? I try very hard to get it right straight out of the camera the first time so I usually only use post-processing software maybe 100 times a year right now. Maybe with the right program, I would do it more frequently.

Are their critical considerations I am missing? Any suggestions are welcome, I really want to make a well informed decision and figured this group knows far more than I do. Thank you.[/quote]

Last night my PC was updated. This morning I get another message asking if I want to update my computer now or later. The message doesn't say what the update is for, windows 10 I assume, which I am now running the latest version of. Does anyone have the same thing occurring or know about this?

Yes I get them mostly Windows Defender up dates.

I call it a "Newport Back Bay adventure" because you never quite know what you are going to get. Kind of like the line in Forest Gump. This kayaking adventure had me capture photos of Egrets, a blow up play area for kids, a girl doing a headstand on a SUP, a pedestrian bridge, a young girl getting up courage to jump into the water and the removal of a skull for rowing from the water.
These all look best in download mode.

I did drop the forum but could not in good conscious give it an undesirable review. It was a good forum and is fairly well-managed and informative, but I do think the moderator has stepped a bit over the line by deleting things that COULD be construed by someone as offensive. We live in a nanny world and this is a good example of that in my opinion.

Okay I can understand that. But maybe a personal note too the moderator that you feel that he/she stepped a bit over the line. You have every right too do this in my opinion!

Drop them as a forum. And give them an undesirable review!

I post in a couple of forums. I show images, offer insights into how I got the image, and always try to help others. I don't say bad things about people, I ignore many comments that do bother me in one way or another, and I've always tried to say things in a manner that does not imply anything negative or critical. I realized a long time ago that we are all different and we all think very differently and I like those differences for the most part. I posted something in a forum and someone responded and then I responded back. Nothing in the conversation, either his comments or mine, were offensive in any way from my point of view. The moderator of the forum, who is a very nice person, sent me a private email saying that a part of what I put in my response was cut out by the moderator because the moderator felt/believed/thought it was not "friendly, supportive conversation."

The topic was about SOOC to some degree, although not the original post. The sentence below was written by one of the posters, and I believed it was actually written in jest but I responded, his post said, "Realize you are upsetting the people who say that the SOOC is a gift from god and it is "My Style."

My response was "In reality the only image straight out of the camera (for the most part) would be a RAW file, not a JPEG file. As we all know, a JPEG is a processed file, letting the camera make all the decisions, so, a camera is the artist for a JPEG file, not the photographer. And any "style" that may be involved can be contributed to the camera, not the photographer." Part of that response included the words, which were cut out by the moderator, "A rational, thinking individual would know this." I meant the sentence not as a criticism of anyone but as a reference to rational, linear thought processes using science, i.e. RAW is not processed but JPEG is processed so only RAW can actually be SOOC [and, in fact, it is often referred to as a negative], even though there is a belief that SOOC applies to JPEG. I had no ill intent nor was I trying to "put anyone down" in anyway.

The moderator's response to me was this: "Here we are again, Connie, chatting about topic content. I deleted a sentence in your reply to --: A rational, thinking individual would know this.

Please remember that -- Forum is about friendly, supportive conversations. Let's please leave criticism of the great unwashed to main discussion forum.

Thanks much!"

I am stunned that this person would reply in this way, "criticism of the great unwashed" and I have no idea at all what the person means by that. I am also insulted to some degree that this person would assume that I would say something offensive. I can only guess that saying the words "rational" and "thinking individual" were found to be offensive words by the moderator. Obviously the moderator saw those two words and interpolated them to his/her way of thinking, her thinking had absolutely no place in my mind.

What is the role of a forum moderator? To cut out things they don't like, don't agree with, or something THEY think is bad or wrong in some way? How far does a moderator go? I can see a moderator taking down a vile, ranting post as that would be obviously hurtful. But after that, what are the guidelines? Are we now a society that believes we can only say things one way and there is no room for saying something another way? I can also see a moderator posting something in the forum that says, in essence, "hey, cool it." And I've seen that before and that does seem to be needed at times. This actually reminds me of the discussions going on now with Amazon and Facebook and perhaps other sites. I absolutely agree that our conversations should be civil and inclusive and that no one has the right to berate, belittle, or generally snarl at others but should all of our words now be formed by the moderator or some "thought police" type person?

I have to admit I am more than a little perplexed by the email I got. Obviously I won't be posting in that particular forum anymore (and I really did like the forum and have learned a few things in it) as I don't care for that type of extreme policing. Your thoughts on this?

I would NEVER trust my camera to a strap that attaches by ONLY the tripod mounting socket.

I've used OpTech straps for years. Some of the ones they offer are wide and have lots of padding. Saves a lot of neck strain when toting around heavy gear. By the way, I've been a Canon Pro Services member and they occasionally send out promotional items... a couple times it's been a strap imprinted with the Canon logo.... And it's been an OpTech strap! (I guess even Canon knows the limitations of their OEM straps!)

Widely available at the major online retailers, there's more info about the straps (and other stuff) OpTech offers here: https://www.optechusa.com/

I think the model of strap I usually use is The Reporter. They have quick release that allows the strap to be removed easily, if wanted. (They also sell little Velcro safety straps to keep those quick releases secure from accidental release... Highly recommended! Edit: I just looked at their site... they call these "Secure-Its". They are designed to fit their standard quick releases, not the "mini". But, they could probably be cut down with scissors to fit the smaller connectors, if wanted. I don't know for certain because none of my straps use the "mini" QR connectors.)

I've got their straps on at least a half dozen cameras, several shoulder bags, a couple tripod bags and two big telephotos that have their own strap mounting lugs.

They offer a number of different types of fasteners, to accommodate virtually any type of camera strap mounting. With the quick release versions, in some cases you can even get the short strap that attaches to the camera separately, so could potentially use the same strap with a number of different cameras (though at the reasonable cost of buying a complete strap, I'm not sure why you'd do that).

I've been using them on some pretty heavy gear for at least fifteen years and never had an OpTech strap fail.

BTW, I've got a bunch of brand new, unused OEM Canon straps still in their original plastic wrapping. I stopped using them (shoulder and neck problems, probably from four decades hauling around camera gear). The last six or eight cameras I've bought over the years, I've bought an OpTech to use with them right from new. The only camera I use now without an OpTech is a small, recently purchased APS-C mirrorless that, with a lens mounted, weighs about the same as one of the battery grips on my DSLRs! I bought it used and haven't gotten around to replacing the strap... might not need to since it's so light weight.

P.S. I also use OpTech's Rain Sleeves and Hood Hats. I've got their straps on a couple rifles and a shotgun, too.

Okay Hedgehoggers, I need some help. I just bought a Pentax K1 Mk ii with battery grip. Beautiful camera but damn it’s heavy to be hanging around my neck all day on the chinsy strap that came with it. So, please suggest a better shoulder strap option. I’ve researched a bunch and it seems like a lot of them hang by the tripod mount-hole...this doesn’t seem like a great place to suspend all that weight. Thoughts? Thanks in advance, all.

Black Rapid sling strap it hangs by your side I bought one years ago it still suits me fine best investment.
