Once someone like Mattis or Bolton is no longer in a White House administration position, they go negative on President Trump.

The liberal media pays handsomely for TV interviews and selling a book is another lucrative way to make money. When they sell out, they lose their respect, but the money is too good.he clown

It's natural for a disgruntled former WH employee to go negative.

Yeah, that is the standard response. They could not POSSIBLY be telling the truth. Anything to deny the truth about the clown in the White House. ALL those four-stars who are finally telling the truth about this guy are not "disgruntled." They may well be disappointed that we have a White House Occupant that is woefully unfit, but not disgruntled.

His niece is not disgruntled and her option of Uncle Don is even worse. Really....paying someone to take your SAT test!

Face it. The guy is a corrupt, lying, vindictive, small-minded, intentionally ignorant, fool.

I took that same oath. Sad to say, I see Trump as a domestic enemy of the Constitution. General Mattis agrees and he had to work with the guy. His opinion is worth 100,000,000 of us regular people.

As usual, you have a great response from EL.
I use the same meter. OUTSIDE it will show you the percentage of flash to ambient. Generally, around 40% flash is the most pleasant and natural-looking. The cool thing is adjusting the shutter duration to darken or lighten the background in relation to the flash. There is a limit, of course, as I cannot go shorter than 1/250 without exceeded the sync speed. For some studio strobes, even 1/250 is a touch fast and I go to 1/200.

In the studio, shutter speed is virtually of no consequence as long as it is short enough to kill any ambient.

Nice work.

Fantastic set - your work with elderly vets is so inspiring!

Thanks! But I do work with vets of every age. Last month I worked with a 25 year old from the Afghanistan war and a few days ago with a 98 year old who was in the Normandy invasion on Omaha Beach.

If one shoots tethered, C1 is THE tool. It leaves LR in the dust for that function. No drops, no having to restart the program...it just works. The way is treats skin tones is also excellent.

It is true that the tools and language are different from Adobe, but as Gene51 indicated, once one gets used to it, it is find. Kinda like switching between Nikon, Canon, and Sony—just different philosophy on how to get to the same end.

Adorable girls? Absolutely! The lighting that he did so well is/was called "Butterfly" or "Beauty" lighting, and it was written into the contracts of many old-timey screen sirens that it was the only lighting allowed for their publicity photos. IMO, the main light was probably moved closer to the subject, giving a "Butterfly" of shadow under the nose.

I certainly was not suggesting the images are not good‚ just a suggestion for improvement. The light is not rally high enough for "butterfly" or "Paramount" lighting. There is not much of a shadow under the nose at all. Looking at the catchlight, it is barely above dead-center.

The one image that does closely have the butterfly look is the one in which one of the girls is seated. Because she is lower, the shadow under her nose does indeed approach the butterfly look.

The OP asked for an opinion and I stand by mine. It is just an opinion.

Well, the girls are adorable and the images are OK, but you have the light pretty much directly over the camera. With light is on the lens-to-subject axis it makes for very flat light. That is not horrible, but it would be better if you moved the light either left or right off center so you create some shadows. It is shadows that give dimension to the face.

Cliff, as usual your photos are just of unbelievable quality. I would so love to visit your studio and watch your before and after work. Ever consider doing a video?

Thanks for the kind words, but everything I do is explained in books and videos already out there. All I would do is just repeat what others have already done. Also, there is the case of individual style and that is how any one person takes that basic knowledge and applies it. You cannot teach that as—at least in my opinion—it is just something that develops over time. Over the years I have been taught by or influenced by: Fuzzy Duenkel, Tim Walden, Edward Steichen, Tim Kelly, Joseph Zeltzman, Joel Grimes, Chris Knight, Edward Stieglitz, Don Chick, Glyn Dewis...and probably a few others. Everything I have learned from them is mixed into my work somewhere.

Fabulous series Cliff... masterful illumination... compelling pose dynamics... superb renderings.
Your attention to detail is stellar... especially with wardrobe styling.
You certainly raise the bar very high in this section...
Wonderful to have working professionals sharing their craft here...

Many thanks for the inspiration... it is truly appreciated!

Thanks Thomas! I have to admit the "wardrobe styling" consists of me telling them bring to the session things and clothing that has meaning to their story. My only direction is that it has to be long sleeves and medium to dark tones. More than a few have had to suck in a stomach a bit to get the dang uniform blouse to fit!

I have been busy th last few months and have not posted much so I thought I better get with it.

Here is a set of images from a recent veteran session. Navy pilot, 90 years old and sharp as can be. Man, did he have some stories!
Camera is a Nikon D850, 70-200 f/2.8 at 110mm and f/7.1, ISO 160

I have a few more vets I will post soon.
