I have gotten that message a couple of times as Lightroom was opening so I shut it down and reopened and everything was fine. Not sure what it means but hadn't seen it before upgrading to Windows 10. Now, I'm not saying upgrading had anything to do with it but I didn't notice it before the upgrade. However, I also have 15,000 to 20,000 pictures in my index so it may have something to do with that. I keep good backups so if something catastrophic happens, I can always recover (I hope).

Hmmmm.....I have Win 10, too. I do need to take my Dell All in One in for service since my card reader is no longer recognizing cards and a couple of my USB ports are not working. All that has been since Win 10 so I'm going to take it to the Microsoft store at our mall as soon as I'm finished with this wedding. My partner had to have his Dell serviced when he updated his Win 10. His hard drive actually died. They not only recovered all his data but the $150 they charged includes service on all 4 of the computers in our house for anything that goes wrong. Now he did have to purchase a new drive but he was able to shop for the best deal and deliver it to them. I thought that was pretty cool. He found one at Best Buy. By the way, I have WAY more than 15-20K images in my index. I don't think you should have to worry about that.

That explains a lot, when the recovery software searches a card it looks for everything that could be a file it might be that the short jpegs were written in a previous format or deleted and partly overwritten. I lost a lot of mp3 files on a large hdd i did a search on the free sectors and it found thousands of files and part files. Part of my reclaiming these files was to dump everything below about a megabyte as i figured below that size it wouldn't be a complete song. Something that might help when it comes to sorting out your recovered photo's. You should have an idea of the usual file size from your camera and anything noticeably smaller is likely to be a fragment.

I did see a LOT of images I didn't need. It recovered almost 7000 images which surprised me since I reformat every time. It was easy to find the ones they needed since they were on top. I was shooting raw and small jpeg though so there were a mess to sort thru. I finally realized I could just search for NEF and I had exactly what I needed and could get the rest of the other 6500 files OFF my drive. (-: Then it was a matter of not duplicating ones that HAD come thru ok since the recovery program names the files differently than the camera does as in Filexxx rather than DSCxxx. LR handled that just fine, too, because I always sort by capture time. That put the two files names right next to each other so that I could delete the duplicate.

Just wanted to give kudos to Sandisk for its recovery program - http://www.lc-tech.com/pc/sandisk-rescuepro-and-rescuepro-deluxe/

I got complacent and used very well used Sandisk cards in my D750 for a wedding I shot on Saturday and when I uploaded almost 2000 images I only got about 1200 and a lot of error messages. To say I was distraught and kicking myself is an understatement but I tried to keep my cool and find an answer. I did. The aforementioned program.

I'm not posting this thread to hear all the things I SHOULD have done. I KNOW those answers and will not let this happen again.

I'm only posting this thread so that others know there is an answer. You don't even have to pay for this program until you know your images are recoverable. Then you can pay $39.99 and they all magically appear on your hard drive. And all were raw. Oh, and once you pay the program is yours for a full year.

It's worth checking out and I, for one, am very grateful that Sandisk has this program. My cards get very heavily used (at least 150,000 images per year between all my cards) and I re-format between every job. I've now ditched those 2 cards and purchased 4 new ones at Costco yesterday at $14.99 each. 32GB Extreme Plus 90 mb/s in case anyone is interested. I believe you can get them at Costco.com for probably free shipping too. I live near a Costco. I buy them this time every year. I shouldn't have waited for the sale though.

Happy shooting everyone! This is just an fyi as I said.

You're not alone. Unfortunately, this link offers your question with lots of guesses at the answer.

Whoops! Forgot the link.

Thanks, Jerry. This is the first time it's happened for me and I handle at least 150,000 files a year. But this time something went wrong with my camera's Sandisk card and I got a bunch of errors when I uploaded to my computer and I had to use the Sandisk recovery system which worked like a charm. I didn't even have to pay for it until I could see the files I needed. Then it was only $39.99 - a REAL deal when you lose important images. It was a couple of THOSE recovered images that the end of file message occurred and there were also a few corrupt ones. It did recover hundreds of great ones though. I should probably start a new thread with this information so it can be searched and found when someone needs it.

I got the same message yesterday when my wife's two year old granddaughter was banging her fist on the keyboard. It went away when I restarted Lightroom. No apparent damage.

Hmmmm....interesting. Too late since I already deleted it but thanks. If I ever see it again I'll try that. I was actually editing files of a wedding and I had plenty. Those couple will not be missed - unless I tell them I had a problem! Ha! They have 1400 to oooh and aaahhh over. I was just wondering if anyone here had had that issue come up.

Thanks!!

"An unexpected end of file has occurred" - this is what I get on certain images in the batch I'm working on. Anyone know what that means? I've never seen it before.

Thanks!

Donna the sports I shoot I shoot under contract. If I blow the shot because of camera settings its my rear and loss of contract. A 7100 has a native ISO of 6400 the D750 is almost double the native of the 7100. The Canon 5Diii I use has 4 times the native ISO of the 7100. And my 1DX that is in the shop with 300,000 actuations, is double the Native ISO of my 5Diii. No wonder you can't shoot under lights outdoors with a shutter speed above 300 shutter speed. I regularly blow up posters at 12,800 ISO. From high school to college to pro, the sports rule of thumb is never go below 1000 shutter speed. Elementary age and middle school you can get away from the 1000 but not much. You will always have a blurry basketball when dribbling under 1000. A good sports camera for Nikon is the D7200, D500 or a D4 or D5.

This statement is simply untrue based on my personal experience. But I will bow out of the conversation now.

twillsol their are several rules of thumb for shooting sports. With out a flash to stop motion you need to maintain a shutter speed at 1000 or above. Anything less risks motion at the extremities. In order to maintain that you need a lens in poor lighting that is what is considered as fast with an aperture of f 2.8 or faster. And the last thing would be a camera body with a native ISO of 16,000 or higher to reduce the noise.

I disagree about needing 1/1000 or faster to shoot sports. I shoot sports daily for yearbooks and although 1/1000 and much faster than that is ideal I get by just fine with 1/320 when I'm dealing with low light. I also regularly have to shoot at 6400 ISO because of waning natural light with poor or no stadium lights for soccer, football, field hockey, etc. Indoors it's basketball and volleyball where you're dealing with poor gym lighting.

I recently did experience the extremity blurring you mention when I had to drop down to 1/250 but it actually looked kinda cool.

I wouldn't recommend 6400 ISO for large prints but for online or small prints it gets the shot. I use two Nikon D7100's for that job along with my old D5100's and just purchased a D750 but will NOT be using that for yearbook photography. I'd have it worn out in a year at at least 200 assignments a year shooting with approx 1000 shutter actuations per job. Both of those models have been awesome for me. I use the 55-300 lens for outdoor sports and I use 35mm and 85mm 1.8 primes for indoor sports.

Have fun. Hope you find the perfect combo for your shooting pleasure.

That's a tough situation for ANY crop sensor camera. Fast lenses are few and far between for them as most are made for full frame cameras that cover a wider field of vue. The Tamron AF 35mm F1.8 VC lens is wonderful for this purpose, but may not be wide enough. The Sigma 20mm F1.4 is wider and faster, but not stabilized. Tokina makes an 11-16mm F2.8 as well. The Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 zoom lens may be the best option out there short of finding a full frame camera to buy, borrow or rent.
Good luck.

I have the D7100 and the Tokina 11-16 2.8 lens and can vouch for that being a great combo for the type of photography you wanted to do. It's great for low light AND great depth of field. I got mine second hand on eBay.

[quote=MtnMan]I have no experience with refurbished lenses but much good experience with Nikon refurburshed cameras. Also with a couple of used lenses. I think lenses more rugged than cameras.

I have the 28-300 and appreciate its flexibility but understand it isn't the sharpest lens. You'll see it discussed in many UHH threads. Most users like it but a few disparage it. There are better choices for specific kinds of images but if your main interest is a do-all walkaround lens it is OK.[/quote

Thanks for your input, MtnMan. I've decided to hold off. B&H has some refurbished 28-300's coming in for the same price as Adorama which is about $20 higher than from Nikon but gives a 30 day return policy rather than the 14 day one from Nikon. All give 90 day warranty on refurbished. I'm going to think some more til B&H get theirs in because I have a $104.04 reward from B&H that I need to use by Jan 9th. Don't want to miss out on that. I don't think Adorama offers rewards. If I had thought of that I would have pursued B&H for the D750 but think the $1399 Adorama price was the best around.

I'm an avid bird photographer but also shoot everything else out there. I can at least give it a good try and return if it's not up for what I need. I also have a 150-600 Tamron that will work with the new D750 so that will cover the bird photography.

My D750 should be here any minute! (-:

Wow, Nikon has a refurbished 28-300 for $779.96 right now. I've never actually noticed refurbished lenses. I've had great luck with refurbished bodies. Any cautions about refurbished lenses??

The D750 is an excellent camera despite the recall about a shutter issue. When returned by Nikon, they were even better. For a price of $1399 for a refurbished, you got a deal. I hope they did not sell you a gray market camera. FX lenses aren't really cheap, but buying them one at a time is still gratifying. That's how I did it with my DX camera. Enjoy your new toy.

No, I made sure it was USA refurbished. I'm going to give it a very good workout in the first month. Thanks for your input.

I just took the plunge. Saw a refurbished D750 body at Adorama for $1399. Couldn't say no. Should be here today! Have had my sights set on this camera for quite a while! I guess the only lenses I have for it though are my 35 and 85 prime 1.8's. Making the plunge for FX lenses is a little further off!
