why the light meter ? Personally I would also leave behind the 300mm I have found when traveling... lighter is better. But that's just me

With the exception of the moon, you are going to need an astrotracker when you use a long lens or telescope. Good ones are not cheap even on the used market. Then the super sturdy tripod, then the associated Astro software. It starts to add up. By then you had to sell the bass boat and that new pickup. Now you are close to the real expensive part… the divorce. Just stick with shooting the MilkyWay.

I just checked B&H … https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/products/Mirrorless-Camera-Lenses/ci/17912/N/4196380428?sort=PRICE_LOW_TO_HIGH&filters=fct_fixed-focal-lengths_2207%3A10.5mm%7C10mm%7C11mm%7C12mm%7C6mm%7C7.5mm%7C8mm%7C9mm%2Cfct_lens-mount_3442%3Amicro-four-thirds

At $139 new .. a 7.5mm is pretty cheap. That is equivalent to a 15mm on full frame. You should be able to find a used on for less. I don’t think you will be happy with anything more than 10mm since that is the equivalent to a 20mm full frame . I know, 20 mm seems rather wide but when it comes to shooting the MilkyWay with landscape it isn’t that wide. Happy shopping

14mm on full frame

I shoot full frame, Aps-c. I would opt for something much wider than 17 mm. On my full frame I use a Samyang 14mm f2.8 and on my aps-c a 7artisans 7.5 mm f2.8. You want f2.8 or faster. The Samyang is very good rivaling lenses costing 3 times as much. The 7 Artisans is ok but at a used price I paid of $75 it’s great. The Samyang I think I paid about $275 for my used lens. I’m not sure what’s out there in the used market for 4/3 but you definitely want to go ultra wide. Here is a shot of 7,5mm on my aps-c. Note: the Rokinon lens is the same as the Samyang. You want also to get a manual focus lens. They are less expensive. And you will be shooting in manual anyway.

Thanks all for looking . For those that have never visiter the Columbia River. I is quite beautiful gorge. Most of the water falls are on the Oregon side of the river. All the falls face north and therefore only a few days of the year at certain times of the day are actually in full sun. It gets so crowded at Multnomah Falls that in the summer months you have to get a timed parking pass topiary there. It's only $2 but you can't buy a ticket the same day you park. Plan ahead.

I had not been back to the falls along the Columbia River since the great fire in 2017. It was a cloudy day so it was good to shoot the falls. I only visited 3 of the many falls.

We have not been any better over here in Central Oregon. I just wish campers were better about their campfires. For those that don't live here ... 3/4 of all forest fires this year were started by humans...

What kind of photography do you do? What are the two full frame zoom lenses you use? You might also consider a "mega zoom" type camera with built in lens, like the Sony RX 100 (m7 or other depending on your budget and needs) or the Sony RX10 m IV or a micro 4/3 camera (ie. OM systems). There are lots of choices these days and most will work well for different photographs though some are better for others.

I would keep what you have. But I would add either the RX100m7 for travel and is super pocketable or the RX10iv for all around performance. I own both and love them. Sorry not the greatest advertising shots but... Top to bottom RX10, RX100, a6500 A1. You can see how pocketable the RX100 is compared to the other cameras. Both RX cameras are the same 1 inch sensor. The a6500 is APS-c, and the A1 is full frame. Note: the RX100 has the viewfinder pulled up and therefor the lens is also extended. The RX100 is shirt pocketable. The a6500 is cargo pants pocketable or jacket pocketable.

Nice. The adapters are the reason I purchased a Sony a6000 years ago. I wanted to be able to use my Exakta lenses. Most were Zeiss but I also had the 100mm Steinheil. New life to old lenses.

To reiterate..... Both the Sony RX-10 series, and the RX100 series have viewfinders and a "1"" sensor, and Zeiss lenses. The difference is that the RX-10 series is a large camera and the RX100 series is a pocket sized camera. If you want the highest optical product, the RX-10 with larger glass will probably be best for you. If you want portability, the RX100 series with the pop-up viewfinder is a fantastic product. I have owned both.

👍👍👍. I have the RX100v and the RX10iv ....both are great cameras. Other than the price, you won't be disappointed with the image quality.
