The 100-400L II is even 'better' when bought used in the $1500 range. One just went up for sale today:

Yes. Bought mine used on eBay for $1200 this past Spring. U.S. model, box, manuel, and hood included. Hardly used, in Mint condition. Ebay money back guaranty is rock solid if the lens (or whatever) had arrived defective. Buying Used is (usually) the Best way to purchase most photo gear for me. Can't stand paying full retail just to make dealers and mfgs rich for a measly12 months of protection. When that's gone, you're without a warranty anyway. Lenses seldom go bad. If they did, I'd still buy used again because the odds are so good buying used (from reputable dealers or individuals). I've saved thousands over the past decade buying mostly used. All my gear still works fine (Canon, Nikon, Sigma, Tamron).

Agree. Proven stellar results. Maybe add a Canon 1.4 III TC on occasion.

Looks real good. I am building my 5th HO model railroad in the past 50 years. Can't wait to run some analog and dcc steam engines.

I was a general contractor for close to 20 years. The number of times people rejected my bids and then came to me afterwards to “fix” what their other guy did prepped me for this sort of thing. My price to fix was the same as the one I originally gave them. When asked why I always replied that not only did I need to build it right, I would still have to demo what they did.

The original 'Dallas' episode that aired on CBS revealing "Who shot JR Ewing", occurred in the Fall of1980, (not 1982). I remember it well. Same year I graduated college and inflation was astonomically high, like aound18% or more.

As an architect and contractor,. I share your pain and applaud your remedial efforts to redo the job right. People have no idea how bad many contractors are. It was a year ago this month we moved out of CA from the house I built in Long Beach not far from you in Huntg. Beach. We built a new home in Dallas,TX. The CA home was custom built in the 90's, but after 30 years had painful amounts of maintenance and termite damage. Now I finally feel free again. Glad I sold it as-is. Good luck with your remodel. You're doing it right by taking it down to the bare studs and floor joists.

Great series! Flying snake? Thanx for sharing.

Thanks. Snake was initially fully visible on top of the lawn when I first saw him. Then he bolted to another spot a few feet away and resurfaced heads up while his body remained cloaked below the grass. Self protection probably.
