Yes, KEH is good. I got a Nikon 80-200mm that had never been sold before.

Jerry, I have been a subscriber for a little over a year and even though I don't post ofter I read posts every day. I appreciate your willingness to share your knowledge and more importantly your kindness. Thank you.

Good to know.I will be looking for a new lens soon. Thanks for sharing & I hope you continue to enjoy your lens!

I have been using the lens for portraits and it is excellent. I don't want to post pictures of people, however I took a quick pic of a flower in my yard to demonstrate color, detail and bokeh.

Quick Test Pic.

Hi Karl, I can't help but comment on your photo of the Balsams. We used to go there all the time in the summer. Hope it reopens soon.

Have fun with your newest edition to your lens family!

We would stay there for three days every spring and we hope the massive construction job doesn't result in loss of the original charm. It was always a great place for photographs.

Have had sigma lenses, never had any problems. Enjoy the area (NH)

Thanks. I may be headed to Pennsylvania in the next couple of weeks. Travel trailers there appear to be a better deal than up here. I can also visit my sister in Blue Belle.

You said that you "...can't afford the very best in quality lenses..."

It seems to me that buying Sigma and Nikon lenses makes that a false statement!

What I intended to say is that some people can afford the very best of the Nikon and Sigma lenses. I have to look for "The best I can afford". However, I don't believe I am expert enough to tell the difference. Thanks for the comment

Sounds as if you're fixed for photographing the beautiful area you live in.

Yes, it is beautiful here in Northern New Hampshire. My wife's family moved to South Carolina and it is beautiful there also. Especially when I visit in the winter. Thanks for the comments.

I can't afford the very best in quality lenses so I am always looking for a value purchase. I purchased a Sigma 24-70 2.8 EXDG Macro lens from KEH Camera two weeks ago and I am delighted. KEH rated the lens EX+ and it appears and functions as brand new. I could not afford a Nikon 24-70 2.8 so I am trying the Sigma and saved at least $1200. This constitutes my first Sigma and my first KEH lens purchase and both have been great experiences.
My low level Trinity now consists of a Nikon 12-24 f4, Sigma 24-70 f2.8 and a Nikon 70-300 f4.5-5.6 VR. I use these on my D7000.
I read this forum everyday and learn much. Thank all of you for sharing your opinions. It continuously helps me.

Boy, do I ever agree with that! Take it a step further and cut back on the useless remarks (and worse, and worser). This should be a friendly, well lighted place for folks interested in photography, at all levels. I see FAR too much sniping leading to flame wars over absolutely nothing. It's a wonder to me that many people stick around at all! "If you haven't anything nice to say, say nothing!" :)

Rant over. :hunf:

I use to admire clever and smart people. However, I now find myself admiring kind people more.

I purchased a new in box Nikon 105 mm 2.8 Al-s on eBay for $250.00. This is a manual focus lens that has allowed me to get into close up photography without a major expense.
I often see used lenses for less than $200.
It works well on my D 7000, but I would suggest you check the compatibility for your camera.
Good luck.

Jim, I just came in from shooting photos of a large group of "Redpoll's" that ventured into the yard. I wish I had your method in mind a few minutes ago. I am headed back out and hope they return.
Thank you for the ingenious idea.

Mac, Thank you for the post. I created a topic on this issue and got a lot of feedback. However, I am still going to use Aperture until I get a better handle on exactly what the new program will do.

Apple retires Aperture and iPhoto, to be replaced with Photos for OS X

Jason Snell
@jsnell Jun 27, 2014 10:08 AMe-mailprint
Apple is ceasing development of its Aperture and iPhoto apps and will replace them both with the previously-announced Photos for OS X app when it ships next year, the company announced Friday.

“With the introduction of the new Photos app and iCloud Photo Library, enabling you to safely store all of your photos in iCloud and access them from anywhere, there will be no new development of Aperture. When Photos for OS X ships next year, users will be able to migrate their existing Aperture libraries to Photos for OS X,” reads a statement Apple released to Macworld.

While Aperture development (beyond minor updates to ensure OS X Yosemite compatibility) will cease, the company has no intention to abandon creative professionals. Development of both Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro continues.

The Photos app, previewed at the 2014 Worldwide Developers Conference, will become the company’s main photographic focus for both professionals and consumers. As it grows, Apple intends the single app to serve the needs of both consumers and professionals. (That will be an interesting challenge; it will be intriguing to see how Apple puts all of its photographic eggs in a single basket.)

The same will be true on the iOS side, where the mobile iPhoto app will disappear and the Photos app will become the focus of Apple’s photography-related app development when iOS 8 is released in the Fall."

For the sake of exporting what I have currently in the Aperture Library I feel I need to wait to evaluate what Apple is going to introduce. Kind of like I am now a prisoner to Apple. Damn.

I found a promo on Corel's AfterShot2. I bought it and am trying it. Corel has a FREE trial also. I'm not a fan of iPhoto and doubt I'll love Apple's new replacement either.

About subscription software: I don't think I'd use it enough to justify $120 a year to rent the software. I may end up buying Lightroom.

Dan. Same here. I cannot get myself to lease a car. I must be overly possessive.
