I am a slow learner when it comes to post processing so this development is aggravating. Thank you for any help you might provide.
Apple is no longer supporting their Aperture processing software. I need a replacement in the near future. What program will be as simple and as intuitive as Aperture? Will I be able to transfer my Aperture and iPhoto Library to the new program? Where is the best place to shop for the new software? What is a fair price for the software?
I read this Forum every day and I appreciate all the brain power I find here.

I started with iPhoto, then went to Aperture, and when Apple announced the support for Aperture was done I switched to Lightroom and found it very easy to move.

The latest version of Lightroom will make transferring all your pictures and adjustments easy.

I myself decided to go with the Adobe Creative Cloud photographers package which is a 10.00 a month subscription for a year at a time and you get Lightroom, Photoshop and a few other apps.

BTW - Lightroom 6 is nearing release, and it will only be available as a subscription. To buy Lightroom you will be at 5.7.

One thing about "the cloud" - NOTHING is stored in the cloud unless you opt for that - all the software is downloaded and installed and runs on your computer just like a store bough package.

Note: Toughest thing about Lightroom is working with a catalog - if you used Aperture as a managed library then you are 90% there already.

Basically, Lightroom must IMPORT images before they can be edited. Like Aperture.

You can download a 30 day trial of Lightroom from Adobe to try.

Apple is also replacing iPhoto with another app that will be better. Many here use Adobe Lightroom and or Photoshop elements. I have used Photoshop Elements for many years found it good on post processing. Don't like the organizer too well. Lightroom could be better for that, although for organizing iPhoto has done fine.

Thank you. Will the new iPhoto have more processing power?

It will just be called the Photo app. From what I have read yes. I don't know if it will out perform Lighthouse or Photoshop Elements however.

My assumption is that some people use more than one processing program. Because I learn slowly i never got beyond Aperture.

I think you will do fine on whatever you choose. Just take time to go through videos and training. There have been and will be lots of great advice on how to use any app.

It looks like I will be using lightroom 5 till it quits and then using Nikon's view nx2 till it stops working.

It IS a personal choice for sure... for me, 10.00 a month for the best, latest and greatest, updates AND upgrades is cheap...

:)

I might change my mind when I am no longer working, but right now I have iPhoto, Nikon's programs, Lightroom 5 & Elements 11 and I can't use them enough now to remember how to do what i do.

I have read nothing that states that LR6 will be subscription only. I have read that it will be shipping the 9th and will operate only on 64 bit machines as. Where did you see that it was subscription only? Thanks

One source... but as we all know it is not written in stone until the product is released.

http://www.christianpost.com/news/adobe-photoshop-lightroom-6-release-for-march-2015-127635/

BUT - Adobe has said on their site that Lightroom will be stand a lone indefinately.

I am sure the move to 64 bit only will rile quite a few anyway ;)
