"Rhapsody in Blue" - haven't listened to it for a while, but after reading this thread I've got it on the turntable - Stanley Black on piano and directing the London Festival Orchestra.

I don't remember hearing Gershwin number I didn't like.

Never heard it live, but would certainly like to.

Hearing it live was a joy! A few years ago at a luncheon for NBC retirees I was speaking to a woman who said her father had been the musical director of the Music Hall. I told her my story, as I knew she would love to hear what her father's work had done to this eleven year old so many years ago!

For sentimental reasons my favorite recording is the Boston Pops with Earl Wild on piano, although I have collected other versions to see if they measure up. Many do!

My mother took me to Radio City Music Hall in about 1954. I don't remember what film played as I had been there a number of times. But this time we arrived for the stage show which culminated in the orchestra, rising on the stage elevator, playing "Rhapsody In Blue." I was thunderstruck! It was the first time I had ever heard it. After the film I asked my mother could we please stay to see the stage show again! I had to hear that piece one more time.

Problem solved with the help of Apple Support.
I didn't go to Apple support first because I didn't feel like listening to someone tan could just barely speak English .
I lucked out and got a very nice young lady that could speak English, but talked very fast, but slowed down after I ask her to.
Ended up restarting in safe mode, the Software update search went like clock work, complete job just a little over an hour.

YES, did you read the complete post?

Yes I did. You said you went to system prefs, then Apple told you do do that same thing. You did not mention anything about the "Software Update" on the "About This Mac" display. Now, maybe because I'm looking at my Monterey "About This Mac" it looks different than yours but I seem to remember that every version of the MACOS I have used has looked the same. This is not the same as selecting"System Preferences."

I hope you wouldn't be surprised at the number of drivers who had no idea that the FDR was going to be closed today. I guess some people only watch certain news channels.

Are you kidding? I live on East 79 Street just three buildings away from the FDR Drive and I didn't know about the bike tour until you posted your nice pics!

Did you try the Update Software button in "About This Mac?" I believe you can also search "Monterey" in the App Store.

I recently had a USB-to-Lightning cable go bad. My wife has been giving it a beating for a few years and then complained her phone was not charging past 80%. I swapped it out and used it myself to see if I could duplicate the problem and it was as she said. The cable had gone bad. That saved me a trip to the Apple Store with her iPhone!

Doesn't any food that comes in a paper cup have an indented raised bottom? All ice cream containers do and have always done so in my lifetime. I just assume it is a method of maintaining rigidity in the package.

I play it but I'm not addicted. It's hard to become addicted when there is only one puzzle per day.

I would be interested in seeing what everyone's favorite opening word is. Mine is "stare".

Dodie

My openers are "Adieu" or "Audio."

17 yrs ago I took this picture in our local Home Depot, The reason at the time when I took the picture was that it validated my preference and dedication to Energizer batteries. I had problems with other brands leaking and Energizer batteries just lasted longer. At the time apparently, Energizers batteries were selling 4 to1 over Duracell.

Many years ago I worked for Union Carbide and bought Eveready batteries cheap in the company store. They always leaked. Then a guy behind the counter in an electrical supply store said that Burgess batteries were actually much better. I tried them and he was right. Eveready became Energizer and Burgess became Duracell. I always stayed clear of Ray-O-Vac!

I gave up a few years ago. I used to use Duracells but there were too many leakages over the years. So I switched to rechargeable Eneloops and every year I go through all the items with batteries and refresh the charge.

Looking for input how to record some cassette tapes of my aunts and uncles to a computer. I have Mac and Windows available.

thanks

You need a USB audio interface. I have a Cakewalk UA-1G that I bought years ago and it is still in use as my interface in the opposite direction from my music collection on an older laptop to my audio system. It functions in the other direction also when I wanted to dub tapes into the computer.

"The Blob", Steve McQueens first movie I believe?

I thought everyone regarded "The Blob" as a satire on horror movies!

There is a problem upgrading to Monterey if you have non-Apple memory installed on your computer: it just won't take the upgrade! To me this is alarming in that future upgrades may be restricted to only Apple-supplied memory. I have that problem, and you can color me very unhappy!

I have the original 8GB plus an additional 32GB from OWC. I just upgraded to Monterey a few weeks ago and I have no problem. Maybe if I had removed the Apple 8GB I would have the problem you wrote about.

I suppose if you are a Scot then Bonnie Prince Charlie was the true inheritor of the throne. The Skye Boat Song commemorates his escape to the Isle of Skye.
