Do yo still have the old Mac? Then export the LR catalog to an external HD, then import cataloged to the new system all using LR to do the transfer.
Yes, that is what the link in the post just above above your post explains. You have stated it in a very succinct manner.
Last night I ordered a SanDisk 2TB Extreme PRO Portable SSD - Up to 2000MB/s - USB-C, USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 - External Solid State Drive - SDSSDE81-2T00-G25. It will arrive next week and that should speed up the process.
Next time I'll use LR to do the transfer. The screen on my old Mac has a serious problem. It becomes unreadable in about one minute. That enough time to share the screen over to my flat screen TV in my living room and work from that screen.
Thank you.
I found a god tutorial:

My suggestion is that you watch a few YouTubes and (maybe) start over.
I think this is good advice "Start over." There were a lot of errors and links to nothing in my old index file. It will take a while but it might be worth it. I can still tell a lot from looking at the photos. Also I have a lot of junk photos that I should dump.
I'll examine the structure on my old computer and try to emulate on my new one.
As for now I have a bit of a mess:
This new MacBook Pro seems supper fast. I just relocated 1.3 TB of photos from one place on the SSD to another place (different folder) with a drag and drop. Not sure it if proves anything but it was instantaneous!
My bottle neck is communicating with the Internet.

Congratulations on wining your battle with cancer.
Cool
As long as you'er backing up
Have you thought of a satellite connection for your internet ?
While I don't live as far out as you the only Internet connection available to me was Dial up
I have been using Satellite for approx. 15 years now, the only interputions I experience are very heavy rain storms and snow collecting on my receiver dish.
I have been using Viasat since my move in Dec. 2019. Found it to be much better than HughesNet @ about the same price.
Congratulations on wining your battle with cancer.... (

I'm already getting this good over my connection to the cell phone tower, some time better! :

UNLIMITED SILVER 25

/mo
$119.99/mo after 3 months
Download speed up to 25 Mbps
Upload speed up to 3 Mbps
Typically 720p video resolution Video Streaming
The Unlimited Silver 25 plan includes Unlimited Standard Data and 60 GB of High-Speed Data

I'll think about it. They say "UP TO". I guess that means on clear cold night in the middle of winter.
I had a complete Time Machine backup on a separate hard drive. Now that you have told me what I'm looking for I'll look for the old copy copy of that file on my backup HD and copy it over into my computer, overwriting the new one that is currently there.
I must have downloaded a complete new version LrC? I had to give Adobe my id and password to activate it.
Thank You!
Apple support has not been much help with this new machine.
My super duper 16" MacBook arrived and I'm selectively moving everything from my backup disk over to the new computer. It took six hours to transfer all my images into the new computer!
The images all came over in giant clump. All keyword have been lost. The indexing has been lost. What is the name of the indexing data and can I recover it?
I now have all my images in the huge SSM of my computer. Yes it's fast but all that work I put into indexing by key words has been lost.

Thanks I'll look into Viasat, never heard of it. Right now I'm trying to all my old Programs up and running on my new computer. It's been a nightmare. Vendors are asking for password that I don't remember. I'm going to try a different way.

Great news Dave on Both counts. Easy as pie, select all, option click and move. Note; option any or may not be needed. Personally I keep "smart previews" on my computer and keep the full Rez. images in a safe place. You can still work on the images when the ext. hard drive is removed. Just like working in the cloud.
I live on a mountain top out in the woods. My only link to the Internet is the radio signal I get from a cell phone tower. it's sloooow. I avoid the cloud and do backup to RAID/LAN I have in my home. I also make another back up to a second hard drive. I callApple and get their recommendation and help.
For now I just happy that I was able to reach the Internet and my printer. My new computer has been running very quiet and has not gotten warm.
Too all my friends here on UHH, thank you and Merry Christmas.

Congrats on the cure!
As for the computer, why move your files? Can't you just hook up your external and pull what you want off there when you want them?
Yes I could but then I would have the inconvenience of an external drive and cable. By having all images internal attached to the internal BUSS I/O bottle necks are avoided, increasing speed.

Great news, CONGRATULATIONS!
I have a little over one year to go before I can hear those "cancer free" words.
Don
Hang in there.
Are you also taking Zydelig?
Your doctor will probably never use the "Your cancer is cured." They like cover their butts and say things like: I durable remission. My doctor said "There is no evidence of current cancer growth, you can stop taking the pills. Should the cancer ever return we can resume the Zylelig or a different drug. When I heard the words "Should it ever return.." I heard "It's left!" Close enough for me!
