Yes. I have several lists according to what and where I intend to shoot on this trip. My lists are to remind me mostly of desired camera settings and to make sure I have all of them where I want them; Things such as aperture, shutter speed and ISO come naturally but I need to remind myself of Mode,Bias, battery condition, and things like that. It is just to make sure I think of every thing.
Have been doing photography for about 67 years but every shoot is a learning experience.
My thought is that if you don't want my honest opinion about your photograph, then why ask. An opinion that is not an honest opinion is no opinion at all.
I was stationed near there in 1945 and visited the Jefferson Memorial quite often. It was my favorite and you have some beautiful photos.
This great blue heron came flying down the road between two small lakes. No time for any adjustments, just raise the camera and shoot. Looks like he was trying to decide which way to go and made the decision to go to the bus stop. Actually, it veered of to the left, landed in the water and started looking for fish.
I know it was standing there watching for fish but it sure looked like it was surf boarding the stripper pit.
Love old houses and barns. these are both great.
Shot these from car window. Hawk was sitting on high line on his legs holding what looked to be either a mouse or a vole. It later flew off and landed on top of power pole. Can you identify what kind of hawk this is? I thought it was a red tail but am not sure.
I have made several trips to this place and gotten a little closer to the heron each time until he doesn't seem to be afraid of me any more. In fact, it seems to pose and enjoy it.
Shot several heron photos yesterday of a willing heron. Intend to ps and crop them to portrait formats. This is just the way they came from the Canon SX10 iS camera. Please feel free to critique as this helps me become a better photographer.

Love a simple, uncluttered photo like this. I understand how hard they are to get.
There are many good books, videos, short courses, etc., but I think the best way is to study the basics and then get out there with the camera and shoot many, many photos. Come home and analyze them all very critically. Have someone experienced analyze them and critique them then study why some are better than others. Was it the aperture, shutter speed, ISO, or what? There are so many things that have an effect on a photo that can only be learned by doing.
This is how the tulips looked this week in Evansville, Indiana.
Just another GB Heron Pic.
I'm 85 years old and probably qualify as an old fart but I would never have done what he did. I agree with you on everything else.
