Factory OEM grips vs 3rd party generics is a crapshoot.
I bought a Vello for my original FX D600 body. It was good quality and I never experienced any issues contrary to some forums.
As I placed more demands on my equipment and made the jump to the more sophisticated D800, I bought the Nikon grip this time. In my estimation the grip is an extension of the camera's electronics and why risk that investment by attaching a piece of hardware that may not be as throughly vetted as the factory item. Plus if something does go south, Nikon could blame the generic grip for the fault. I recently shot almost 1500 frames of local snowmobile races over two weekends with the grip attached. One day was at 10 degrees and the next was close to 40. I had no hiccups both days. I also only use Nikon batteries that I swap out regularly.

The only thing you have to remove is the rubber cover over the contact interface from the base of the camera. That cover slips into a slot on the top of the grip for safekeeping. I have a D600.

The pano stitching in PS keeps getting better and better over time. I have other stuff I am going to revist. I have one that I am still working on that consists of 17 portrait- oriented frames of Penobscot Bay taken from the summit of Point Lookout and another I took from the Pali Lookout in Hawaii. Had trouble with power lines sloping across the foreground and having disconnected ends.

I shot the season finale for the OneLunga Racing Club on the lake I have a family camp on. This was last Sunday. Lots of snow on the ice but temps were climbing into the high 30's. I was on the ice and snow from 10 in the morning until it finished about 4 that afternoon. The club races older snowmobiles that have one-cylinder engines. Does not have to be stock. About 20 racers filled out the field.
This image is from one of the first heats as the pack was rounding turn 1 coming off the start.
I shot about 750 images that day. Still grinding through them.

The town is pretty much buttoned-up this time of year.

This is my first upload and I followed the guidelines about the longest dimension being 800 pixels. Can I sneak a higher resolution image through? You are right, kind of underwhelming on the page. I have it printed and hung on my wall already in a 40" frame.

As we drove into Bar Harbor my primary goal was to go into Acadia itself and up Cadillac if possible, but the recent snow even had the Park Loop road blocked so down to the waterfront we went.

Was out there for almost an hour and a half and the clouds were heavy right on the horizon so I feared the sun would never show itself but they thinned out eventually this is the result.

Yeah, I guess deleting those spam emails about hot Russian women is still a really good idea too.
