It could be a bad contact or the wrong software. If it worked on that computer before, I would bet on a bad contact, computer or card.

Might be an interesting class.

I don't know where you are hiding out but there used to be a great camera repair shop in NW Tucson and they didn't charge an arm and a leg.
I would bet your lens has had it but maybe the camera can be saved.

They may be blending in to avoid becoming someone's dinner.

I think you may have started thinking about what your camera can do and not about what you see. You are looking and not seeing. Some suggestions:
Most of all, relax.

Take a nap between 2 and a half hours after sunrise and end it 2 and a half hours before sunset. That way you will be well rested and awake for the best light of the day. ;-)

Look for very simple compositions and think about them, a curve, a simple shape, repeated patterns, etc..

Whenever I get bound up on something I sometimes remember to tell myself "KISS!".

I don't think there is any one book. Some of the best I have are out of print and at the moment in storage while I move. I love the control I had with film am not entirely satisfied with digital and auto focus. I still drag along my 48 year old Nikon F. It still works as well as it did brand new. Meanwhile I used up a half dozen automated and digital cameras.
I really suggest a simple film camera with a good range of settings and a hand held meter. It is slower and somewhat expensive way to learn, and different films will add a whole new dimension. ;-)

While in Tucson, there are two missions south of Tucson. San Xavier (http://www.sanxaviermission.org/) and Tumacacori (http://www.nps.gov/tuma/index.htm).
Both are challenging to photograph.

Have fun

I've used both Canon and Nikon and like both. I suggest you look at the simpler models and spend your money on the best lenses you can buy.

I picked up an army surplus tripod for $5. It is ugly and a little rough to adjust but strong enough to hold a Hass 501 and heavy lenses rock solid. It is a great spare and I don't care where it gets put. It's amazing how many useful items I have found in Surplus stores

Thank you for asking the question. I learned a few new ones today. I've been dragging my Peterson's Western around for 36 years. My Audubon guide gave up the binder at about 3 months. Maybe it is the dry climate on the SW border.
One thing, you may encounter birds not in your local guide.

I spent hours on buses today for a round trip to Jerusalem and I took over 300 shots.

What I want know from you people with big bucks invested in your photo equipment: what do you do in crowds? What do you do when there are teenagers everywhere and they all seem to be looking at your stuff? What if all of a sudden it gets very tight (too many people in a small place) and you've got the most to lose? And what do you do when they start running in all directions, making tremendous amounts of noise?

I carry a minimum of equipment and no more than 2 lenses, one on camera, a small bag with a strong strap, and a little tape on the camera to cover the name and make it look a little damaged.
I never had expensive camera equipment before? What do you do?
