Dropped Nikon D80 on lens. Can't get lens off
Anyone have any hints, tips or tricks to removing a Nikon lens off of a Nikon D80 after the camera and lens were dropped on to asphalt. Camera still works and lens still works except not very good in clear focus. Depth of field seems to have taken a hit too. But.... Would like to get lens off and see how much damage there is the camera vs the lens. Lens will not rotate at all when trying to remove from camera even with the release button depressed. Maybe a 0.1" at most Just won't release to allow the lens to be removed. Any hints on how to get the lens off without sending it to Nikon for $$$$$ repair?

I don't know where you are hiding out but there used to be a great camera repair shop in NW Tucson and they didn't charge an arm and a leg.
I would bet your lens has had it but maybe the camera can be saved.
I'm not hiding out anywhere but I'm currently residing in NW Washington state near Seattle. I know the lens is damaged but if I can get the lens off the D80 I can probably find out of the D80 is still good since I have other lenses.

You run the risk of damaging the camera and/or lens further if you try to force it off. Far better to take it to a repair shop or Nikon.
It would appear the solution is what you ended with. Either Nikon or some other repair service and muy mucho dinero.
Sorry for your wallet.

You might send a PM to MTShooter. He's in MT (duh!) but if I remember an earlier thread, he knows of a couple of local stores in WA that might be able to help.

Is Rick back? He seemed to be of line for a good long while. If he's back, it's good for all of us.

I would not send it away. Must be a repair place in Seattle.

Check with Kenmore Camera (in Kenmore). Also Glazers camera in Seattle, I would say it's the biggest place in the area. There is Tall's camera in Belevue Square mall.

I think it's time to start looking for a new camera. The cost of repair will be pretty high. You definitely have bent parts where the lens meets the body. After getting a new camera, I would force the lens off and look for a replacement camera mounting ring on ebay.

Since it may be beyond help anyhow, how bout a large pair of channel lock pliers? Probably the same thing the 'technician' at the camera store would use.

If the Channel Lock doesn't work there is always a pipe wrench.Seriously if those kind of tools are necessary, the thing is beyond repair.
