Spectacular photos! Wish I was still young enough to do that kind of stuff.

in photo 3 are those "tuners" on the front of the barrels to vary barrel vibrations to shoot more accurately?

very solid looking shooting benches; no wobbly wooden benches there.

18-400???

I have been using one on my Canon D70 for a year or so, and I can't recall taking it off since I first put it on. It is a little soft on the long end, but the ability and convenience to go from a 28 mm equiv. to a long telephoto is more than worth a little softness on occasions. It's not often that I use the longest focal length anyway, ~640 mm equiv.

Next Thursday I am taking a quick trip to the tulip festival in Holland, MI. I am trying to get by with the lightest smallest kit. I'll be taking one body, a Canon 90D (crop camera) with an 18-400 f3.5. also planing on a 10-18 f4.5 and a 60 f2 macro. Of course there will be extra batteries and memory cards. No tripod or mono-pod. My question is: am I taking to much?

if I were taking a quick trip and wanted the lightest kit, I'd either take the 18-400 and leave the others at home, or leave the 18-400 and take the other two. And, I'd take a garden kneeling pad or a folded towel to protect my knees and, if it were me, a cane or hiking pole to help me get back up off my aching knees.

In some small town, in a shed behind someone's house, there is sure someday to be found "The Museum of the DSLR."

Or someone prowling around an old barn somewhere will come across a pristine DSLR in a dust-covered camera bag and brag about his "Barn Find!"

Because these issues are frequently part of the comments posted in this section, I thought it would be OK to post something without a photo, but a question. Of the two evil I’s, which ruins a photo for you more? Ink or implants?

depends; some tats, a few small and in good taste are fine, but multiple tats, especially large, really grotesque ones are not. Ditto for implants; oversized and/or poorly done implants tend detract from rather than improve the subject. But I prefer the natural, God-given beauty of a woman's body, minus the underarm bush of course!

I feel fortunate that I don't have GAS. Well, not the kind you're talking about. Any time I contemplate making a major purchase I typically have to convince myself that it's the right decision and can be justified even though I can easily afford it. When I turn loose of money I want to feel good about it. This year my daughter and I opened a ROTH IRA for her with me depositing $12,000, the max allowable for the two years of 2020 and 2021. I could have bought some really nice equipment with that money but so far I'm okay with what I have.

Wise decision. It's amazing what compounding interest can do over the years when you start young!

Hi All - in July, I plan to drive a rental car with my 33 y.o. daughter from San Francisco to Yachats, Oregon, then fly back to SF, or fly to Yachats from SF with her and drive back to SF along the coast, in a rental car. Any thoughts on (1) things to see/photograph/do, (2) which choice of direction to drive vs. fly might be the better alternative (it occurs to me that driving south might reveal better views, since it's closer to the edge of the road(?)) (3) any other thought/suggestions pertaining to the journey? I have about a week to do the entire round trip, and rent a car one-way and fly the other seems to be the best use of limited time? Also any good hikes, good food suggestions or things/places not to miss would be happily received! Thanks in advance... Kevin

Fly north, drive south; stay along the coast, with a side trip to Crater Lake.

[quote=AzPicLady]When I first came up with this, it was because Google said that I could drive it in 13 hours - that's only one day! Then, I started looking at where I'd be going and so now it's up to 2.

If you take I-70, it's fast but not very scenic, just flat, until you get to western PA. The only thing I would recommend off I-70 would be the USAF Museum in Dayton, OH.
On I-64, there's nothing scenic until you get east of Lexington, KY; from there a side trip on the Mountain PKWY to Red River Gorge Geological Area is worth the time to see it. After that, it's on to West Virginia.

GAS usually hits long before anything wears out. What never wears out though is always the instruction manual.

You read it right, $69 million for a JPG...

An artist "Beeple" has created a patchwork of 5000 pictures he took over 5000 days.

This interesting price started at $100.00 !!!

This is the ultimate con job if you ask me...

"The buyers are usually not acquiring copyrights, trademarks or even the sole ownership of whatever it is they purchase. They’re buying bragging rights and the knowledge that their copy is the “authentic” one."

You might want to look up NFT (Nonfungible tokens)...

"An NFT is an asset verified using blockchain technology, in which a network of computers records transactions and gives buyers proof of authenticity and ownership. The current boom is mostly for digital assets, including images, GIFs, songs or videos. Most importantly, NFTs make digital artworks unique, and therefore sellable."

The buyer of an NFT will not necessarily acquire a copyright, or even sole access to a work. (Many will remain available to anyone with an internet connection.) But some people are willing to pay, handsomely, to be able to claim ownership of the “verifiably real thing.”
You read it right, $69 million for a JPG... br br... (show quote)

so if it's a digital file and he makes a backup copy [just in case], is the backup worth 69 million if the original file gets corrupted or lost?
