Did you try pressing the little flash button on the front of the camera. It has a lightening icon on it.

If you have trouble finding webbing by the yard you could always look at thrift and second hand stores for used backpacks and remove the straps to add to what you have. As has been suggested a shoe repair or a canvas maker( boat covers, awnings etc.) should have the right skills and machines to stitch it for you.

This pond has very little light in the morning. Gave me a chance to play with settings to see how far I could push them.Please keep in mind that my post processing skill level is fair to non existent. I'm working on it.
