I habitually burn projects, assignments, and trips to DVDs, keep all old photography off of the computers for maximum speed.

Don’t want anything to do with the cloud BS. External drives are cheap to buy and store backup data.

I have heard of people developing film 40 years old left in cameras.

Fellow Hoggers, I was just given a Manfrotto 055XPROB Pro Tripod Legs. It does not have a head, thus the reason for this post. I am looking for recommendations on a head to attach my D7100. It will be used mostly for taking portraits. I am looking for a good quality head for under $100. I appreciate your responses. Thanks!

Reported this in a past post. If you have many jobs requiring you to switch from still photos to video to lighting, no doubt you have looked for a screw driver, quarter, allen wrench to change plates to accommodate all the proprietary quick change clamps out there--a real pain in the butt and time consuming. I have converted everything to ARCA Swiss including L brackets for all my camera bodies. The 120mm ARCA clamp on my DJI Ronin only cost me $9.00 new on Ebay saving me a good 20 minutes trying to change out the camera and mount it to one of the 20 holes in the base plate for insertion. In addition to moving the base plate, I can make a micro adjustment forward and back for balance adjustment of the camera front to rear. Taking the camera from the Jib to the DJI Ronin to the tripod is a snap.

All of my ball heads are ARCA, and as you can see I converted the Manfrotto Glidecam and Fluid Head to ARCA with inexpensive clamps purchased on Ebay. All of my battery powered speed lights are easily changed without having to screw them on and wrap the cords around the stands as the light turns.

Stay away from Manfrotto heads. Convert everything to ARCA Swiss and leave the tools etc. behind.

I do not brag about thousands of dollars worth of gear. It would take a half page. I let my work sell my services.

I have always found attaching or detaching mounting plates to the camera to be a pain, especially in the field. I never have a coin in my pocket, or a screwdriver handy, but I have come up with a simple idea that works well. I went to the hardware store and bought several 1.25" fender washers and a few small carabiners. The fender washers are larger than a quarter and easier to use, come with a hole in the center and slide easily on the carabiner, which I clip to my camera bag where I can easily reach it. I put one on each of the bags I use the most.

For years I have fought this issue. With Bogen and Manfrotto wanting to be different...what a pain in the butt! So I have changed all of my Manfrotto Ball Head, Fluid Video, and Glidecam heads to ARCA Swiss for quick release and mounting. I picked up a 120mm ARCA clamp for 9$ new on Ebay and placed it on my DJI Ronin adjustment plate. It serves as an extra fine tune in and out adjustment and I never have to remove the plate on my camera; ditto for the Glidecam and the Video Fluid head.

Check out the little ball head I picked up for $24 and the ARCA mounts for my video monitor. Sunway clamps are expensive, and I recently purchased a few clamps for $12.00 a set new on Ebay. For my Quantum Speedlights I have clamps on all of my stands, and plates on all of my lights. On and off without winding the cords around the stands trying to screw on the top heavy lights.

For a few bucks, problems solved all the way around without tools and frustration. When you need that allen wrench and you left it out of your bag on the kitchen table? Damn!!

I have view cameras and medium format cameras. For a fraction of my $64,000 Mamiya, I purchased the new Canon 5DSr 52 mega pixel camera—game changer! Large prints without the weight or expense.

I totally agree 100%!!

Shooting real estate commercial projects nearly every day with my Glidecam, Jib, DJI Ronin stabilizer, slide rail and tripods, I have changed every custom bracket with ARCA Swiss clamps. All of my portable lights have Sunway ARCA clamps and plates affixed to the lights. Ever tried to thread those top heavy lights in a hurry and wind the cords around the stand?

Now I can take cameras off any video tool and quickly change them to another without ANY tools, quarters etc.

My wife was raised Jewish. Jewish history is one persecution after another, so using the term "Jewish" in that form is very scary to many. Like it or not, understand it or not, your words are scary, and therefore inappropriate.

BTW - the thing that has changed is people's willingness to speak up. These words have always been offensive/scary, and therefore inappropriate ..... we just didn't know it

All my Jewish friends are proud to be Jews and proud of their heritage. I have worked for Jews all of my life--great mentors, great friends, and the best business people I know. So Chuck You Farley and the Horse you rode in on. Get a Life!!

I am going to put 14 pictures on some kind storage device. Is it best to use a CD, DVD, or flash drive? I will not be using any type of download or dropbox, only a tangible storage. I hope I'm explaining this clearly.
Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

Best way is to use "We Transfer" free service. Let them worry about how to store or accept photos. You tell them up front this is how the photos will be delivered and there are no problems or added expense. A flash drive is easily lost and computers now days do not have DVD players. Everybody is used to the download method of accepting software and graphic items. There should be no problem.

I edited my original comment. I changed my mind. I WILL get on your case for your comment. Completely inappropriate to refer to B&H Photo (or Adorama or any such stores) as being “Smart Jewish businessmen”. Why was that even important to mention their religious affiliation? What were you thinking when you brought it up?

B & H is a reputable Jewish owned and operated company, closing and observing every Jewish holiday. Not being Jewish, I personally think Jews are the best business people we have. It was a compliment to identify them as reputable and smart...they are! Lighten up Rastus...everyone is so offended these days.

If your Canon cameras were purchased from a major vender (e.g., a manufacturer or the “big three”), I would have fully documented the purchase and sent the details to the vendor with an explanation. No guarantee, but I’ll bet the vendor would have responded with concessions to honor the spirit of customer service. Most vendors are pretty decent that way, including oft maligned Nikon. As stated above, Nikon doesn’t build cameras to fail in three years - something else is going on.

Spot On! Deal with B&H Photo Video. They have so much power over the camera manufacturers that they do not sweat the small potato nickel dime dealers and warranty small print. Smart Jewish businessmen know how to take care of customers. Nikon would not want to screw the biggest reseller of their products in the country. They have made everything right with me for 20 years!

I worry about the longevity of my cameras. At work we went through Nikon 300s like water. Those pieces of crap did not last more than 200,000 shutter counts each. But the cameras were cheap compared to other models and they did the job. We took 3000 pics per day- computer fired on a turret and burned each camera out in 3 months. The output was a 360 view of the product parts.

I have never heard anybody boast about a more durable shutter and censor in the high end cameras versus the low end $1000 models. Seems a shame. Film cameras last literally forever. I guess that is what we get for converting to computers.
