Pick them both up at a camera store and see what best fits your hands! I have shot both Nikon, Pentax, Sony, Rollei and now Canon. They are all great cameras! My hands are large and thus I have either installed the battery grip on each camera or in the case of the D4 and IDX, the grip is built in.

I agree with RT, those two would work and forget the monopod/tripod/flash. Just extra clutter to drag along! Enjoy!

Jasper National park is awesome! The photo opps are amazing and there is lots of wildlife. Pay close attention to the cliffs along side of the road coming out of Jasper going north. Rams love to lay on the ledges and you are less than 40' away when you stop to take photos. They just pose for you!

We have State Farm and I purchased a supplemental insurance policy on my Nikon equipment on our trip to Alaska. I believe it was $90 for the year and I brought over 12k in equipment. I printed out a list of lenses and camera's, average price and all serial numbers of each. No problems and put my mind at ease for the trip.
Good luck!

Alaska! Did I mention Alaska? Spent two months driving from Florida to Alaska and back! Would do it again! Nothing like the good ole' USA! And as someone else mentioned, Utah and all it's splendor! You could spend another two months there! Enjoy and bring a few extra cards and batteries! I had my mac with me and uploaded photos, processed them and dropped them in a stand alone HD.

Wonderful photos to be shared for a lifetime and then some! #5 says it all! Nice job of filling the frame and catching the expression on the runner!

Joe enchanting captures! Love the color harmonies...
Great composition with the batters by keeping the entire length of the bat within the frame...
And as Paul suggests maybe increase your shutter speed a tad or so...
Even with slow pitch softball 1/1600 at a minimum w/ 200mm glass is typically SOP...
Here are examples at various shutter speeds for softball

Hope this helps...
Thank you for sharing Joe...

Thank you for your comments! I will see what my shutter speed was, but I believe it was close to 250. Will post the info!

Juicesqueezer nice job for your first time. I agree with Thomas about the shutter speed. Keep shooting it take a lot of practice. I have been shooting for 40 years and I am still practicing.

Thank you for your comments! After over 50 years, still feel I am practicing as well. lol!

Speed that shutter up, let that 1DX Breathe a little. It can handle it.

Agree!

My usual comment remains. Freezing the ball within the frame is NOT the goal. The better shot shows a LITTLE motion. Best of luck.

I agree, having shot at higher speeds, it stops the ball and I was not looking for that in these photos. However, I do agree that I should have increased the shutter just a tad bit more to show a little less motion. Still getting use to the Canon from Nikon, but I do love the color this camera delivers and the tracking focus, which is a lot better than on my D4.

If talking camera batteries, I'm with you (I know a lot of people use 3rd party and are happy with them), but I just don't want to chance it, so I always use Canon's ( I have over a dozen and none has ever had an issue of any kind)!

Yes, I have used 3rd party batts as well with no problems! However, on the Canon 1Dx, the third party batts will not show the battery information, so bit the bullet and spent the $159 on the OEM. WOW!!!!
