They are pretty Sue. I had a cage for them and am trying to find something they like to eat. I stopped and got a few tomato's on the way home to see if that works. I almost had Janny ready to cook one. But I told her it was hers.:):)

I think they just eat the leaves, Erv. Gather some where you found them ugly things....
We always called them green things tomato worms because that's where we found them.
That was back before we got so smart.

But I have had some of the wash rats occasionally eating my lowest tomatoes.

That NZ bug reminds me of a cricket. I wonder how big they are?

Good for you. The reviews are all good on the D3300, especially KenRockwell.com (In many years and many cameras and lenses, Rockwell has never steered me wrong.)

You can probably do a little better at Costco than Sam's club.

Reinaldocool,
Thanks for that lead to Ken Rockwell. I finally went to his site and virtually scoured it about the D3300 and lenses.
Using his suggestions I opened up a new level of understanding with the new camera, and got some really stunning pictures of our friends 4 kids who were here yesterday.
Action on the trampoline, play in the pool, candid, and poses.

Thank goodness the tobacco horn worm seems to restricted to your side of the world

Yep. I wouldn't wish them on anybodies garden. Big fat ugly and voracious.

But I bet there is a bug or critter there that would give us the willies as well?

Hmmm, that one does not look like you, so I guess we have to wait for the rest of the family to peek out so we can choose which one will be Sonny III.

Naw, I'd say they are both prettier.

Thank you very much Sonny for your comment and thumbup, very much appreciated.

Not quite sure what happens next, just found it hidden amongst lots of other things, will keep an eye on it.

I have a Canon 650d and used the Canon 18-55 IS lens. :-)

Thank You very much, Sylvias.
I got a package camera and one of the lenses is an 18-55.
So your reply helps me decide what to mount for my garden shots.
I look forward to peeping in on your posts.
Thanks!

Good shots Erv. This is a 'Manduca" type catapillar but not the Tomato Hook Worm (Five Spotted Hawk Moth). It is actually a Carolina Sphinx Moth.

Go to BAMONA on the web and in the Image Gallery, enter Stage as catapillar; Type as Moth; and Scientific Name as Manduca and you will see the difference.

I love the BAMONA site for identifying these.

Wild Erv, just wild!
Beautiful shots! Fantastic detail.
Thanks for sharing!

I shown the pictures to my plants and they began to shake. So I can say you really captured them in your pictures.

I've been fortunate that none have found my piddly 4 cherry tomato plants this year. (So far)
I am not kind to them. I "air mail" them over the fence into the wash behind us. Inside their jeweled exterior is green juice, about a half a pint, I estimate. Yuki!
But that was before. Now they might be fun subjects. :hunf:

The kids love Grandpa's tomatoes. And we are getting a pile this year. Near a bowl a day right now.

I don't know of anything that eats them. (Except my wash)

Well, I'm a nervous wreck now.
We have our friends kids here for the day.
12, 10, and 8 1/2 year old twin girls. And their rambunctiousness.
The went out to play on the trampoline and Mama dove took to the wires. Gave me a chance to get a few nest shots, but then lunch was served. Guess where?
So I went out and told them they have to come in or the babies WILL die.
I sure don't do well with stupid....
I hope Mama returns very soon, she is watching from the wires.
Two babies...

Daddy came back and is on duty. Curtains are closed and cards games are on. Go fish...

That's all for today. Gramps needs a nap.

A quick peek...

Very nice indeed! Captures a moment in time.
Will it go to seed next?

Could you share a little about the lens? I'm just starting out and curious about equipment (lenses used).
Thanks!

OK. But why?

I'd rather let them fly free.
At .06 -.8 ounces, any band has to be a hindrance.

How about we band you?  :hunf:

Guess who stuck their head out for a look around?
We have at least on dove chick in the nest this morning.
The wife noticed it has a feathered head, so she thinks it's maybe older than we think. But it's a copy of it's parents, just tiny. Don't know, never saw dove chicks before.
I tried to get a picture, but it's camera shy right now. All I got was some ruffled feathers... :? Daddy was tending at the time.
More later.... hopefully.

Yeah. The goofiest one.
The first one to fall out of the nest, that'd be my namesake.
