Hi Sarge,

I was there in 68-69 in Dong Tam in the delta. Good luck on your trip. Bring back lot's of pix and what you think of the country today. We'll be thinking of you. Take care & ...

Hi

I recently purchased a D5100 and like you I was disappointed with the quality/sharpness of the pix I got until I adjusted the sharpness in the alphabet menus. The from-the-factory sharpness setting on my D5100 was 3. When I reset it to 7 I really like the pix. Now after a couple of other "tweeks" I really love the camera for what it is, an entry level camera. It's not my D300 but the pix it shoots are as good or better. It just doesn't have all the bells & whistles of the D300. Take care & ...

Hi Hey Jude,

I used the 90mm Tamron macro often on my D300 and love it. I really like the manual/auto focus adjustment. On many lenses you have to slip a button back and forth to go from auto to manual but on the 90mm Tamron the focus ring itself slips back and forth so I can easily go from auto to manual focus without taking the camera from my eye. On the very minor negative side, I can hear the focus motor (slightly) when it's working where most of my Nikon lenses are almost silent. Take care & ...

Hi,

I ran into a similar experience with a flash drive that I forgot in my shirt pocket. It ended up going through the washer before we discovered it. It worked just fine after it dried out and the picture I had stored on it were just fine as well. When I saw that wet drive I knew my pix were in trouble but they were not. Take care & ...

Hi MT,

I have a D200 with low shutter count. The mirror locked up the other day and I had to pull the battery to unfreeze it. I've shot about 500 pix since then and no more problems but I can't trust it to take on a wedding shoot and expect it to "function in the heat of the battle." I'll let you have it for $250.00 if you are interested. Toll free at 1-888-243-3597 or cell 208-861-0564. Take care & ...

Hi,
I've found Rick Peterson's website to be an excellent place to learn all aspects of PSE. Even though I use regular PS CS5 and his site has helped me a bunch. The link is below:

Hi sudzmonn,

It's a great camera. When I got mine I was a bit dissappointed in it because the pix didn't seem to be sharp enough. After going to one of the alphabet menus I found the sharpening came set to #2; after bumping it up to #6 the pix all looked great out of the camera. You might check that when you get yours. Also, I use mine to shoot a lot of tripod-mounted macro shots and find the delayed timer helpful to do that. You can reprogram the timer to end up on the function button (below left side of flash) so you can activate it in a "flash," pun intended. Enjoy your camera. Take care & ...

Hi jbranum,

I have the Tamron 90mm macro and love it. It is not as quiet during auto focas as some of my Nikon lenses but I don't have the 105 to make a comparison. On the Tamron, I really love the "slip focus" ring to quickly change from manual to auto focus. I'm using my Tamron on a D300. Take care & ...

I used one of those a few times in the military in the late 60's. I ran across one on eBay several years ago and bought it so my 4x5 Speed Graphic wouldn't feel so lonely. <G> Using the bellows on either camera makes for some great macro shots and the swings/tilts were fun too. Take care & ...

Hi Vincent,

The FinePix is a great camera. I have/use 3 of their pro level cameras (S2, S3, S5) for weddings until I bought the D300 and it has taken their place with a few more MP. Also, I've had at one time or another as a grab-and-run camera a S7000, S9000 and HS 10. The 7X & 9X were great but the HS10 stopped focusing after only a years use so I'm now in the market for another grab-and-go. I've pretty much decided to stay with Nikon (P510 thanks to Sarge69 tests) after a several year detour to the FinePix Pro line up (all built on Nikon frames so I could use my lenses). Sorry for the long answer but the pix I got out of my FinePix were great. I like the FugiFilm colors so much I've downloaded a "color profile" to use in my Nikon D300 and it is fine. You should be very happy with the camera and the color saturation is great. Take care & ...

Hi Sarge 69,

I always assumed you and I were similar ages and my hat is off to you if you can get through the UHH posting/pix in a half an hour. I usually start with my first cup of coffee at 5:30 and don't get done until 7:00 (or even later). You must read faster than I do. <G> I enjoy your posts. Take care & ...

Hi blasi,

I'm a Nikon shooter but have a friend who shoots an A77 (and A55, 850). Those Sony camera's are excellent and you should have a great time with you new camera. Good choice and share some pix with us. You'll be stunned at the low-light shots you can get with it. Take care & ...

Hi,

That shot brings back memories as I lived in Merced in the 70's and took a number of B&W shots of that fountain. I never did know the name so appreciate knowing it. Thank you. Take care & ...

Hi Al,

That pic brings back memories of another time like the oxbow stirrups, well worn chaps (chinks) and a rope set up for hard-and-fast roping (rather than dally). Take care & ...

Hi,

You didn't say but if your friend is shooting jpg pix or not. If he is shooting jpg, he may be having the same problem I had with my Nikon D5100. My camera came with a sharpness setting of 2 and I was not happy with the pix I got. When I bumped the setting up to 7 the pix are great. You might check the sharpness settings in the manual/menus. Take care & ...
