Hi all HH's and Happy New Year.

My FX gear is complete now I want a second body with cropped sensor. I first thought about Fuji but they have no zooms.

My FF camera is Nikon but want to try another brand - Canon for its flip-out screen. I'm trying to decide between 600d 650d 60d but really canot figure it out. Is IQ the same? I know the 60d is more of a semi-pro grade camera with buttons and wheels etc. but I alreadi have the D700 for that. The camera will be used mostly by my daughter.
Please don't answer with other brands: I'm not interested in them.
My choice is between the ones I've written above. I'll use it mostly with zooms like the 18-270 or 70-300 for reach.

Thanks.

P.S. if IQ is the same price is a deal braker for me.
Hi all HH's and Happy New Year. br br My FX gear ... (show quote)

I "upgraded" a while back from the Canon T2I to the 60D. I am much happier with the 60D. But I upgraded from T2I or 550D so it is older than the camera's you are considering.

The 60D has some wheather sealing and has more controls and faster shutter.

Check out

It is great to be able to share the love for photography with the young ones!

Just to ADD I upgraded to the Canon 6D just this past month. I am looking forward to the differences FF can bring!

Great shot, this puppy has big feet, and you know what that means! Big Dog!

I wish I would have gotten the IS version of that lens. I have not used mine much but got a new FF Canon 6D and will get it out soon and take some shots.

   That's one large female eagle! Good job! Thanks for sharing.

For those of us that do not know how to tell male from female, how do you tell the differeince?

Because coloration of both male and female is the same, unless both are seen together, its difficult to tell, but if they are, the female is noticably larger.

After you download you pics in the computer for PP, you need a side view, like the one you posted, to make the determination. Notice that the corner of the mouth extends beyond the vertical center of the eye. That's a female. The male's never extends beyond the center of the eye.

There are other determining factors, but you need a bird in hand to do the measurements. Naturally, if you're lucky to get a shot of them breeding, you'll know which one is which. :)

Its difficult to tell which is which in the field. Most birders with high powered telescopes and binoculars can't tell the difference.

I hope this helps. Thanks for asking.

Thanks Terry,
I would not be so bold as to suggest that method of identification. Let's see it you get some feedback.

well both those L lens are pretty expensive.

I have the 70-200 2.8 L and it is heavy, so much so that I do not use it that much.
I have the 24-105 4 L and that stays on the camera all the time.
It has been suggested to me by others, Try one before you drop the $$. If you know someone try theres out for a day ro week. If not rent one.

I can't say I am sorry that I bought the 70-200 2.8 L just do not use it as much as I had though. Maybe I need to have another go of it? Also it does not have the IS feature as I blached at the additonal cost of that feature, maybe I should have considered it!

Good luck and welcome aboard!

That is a great shot, so clear and those talons!!!

Do you know if that is a Hawk?

I also look at;

This shot is as good as the shots I see there, and I think it is a forum for Pro's or Semi Pros anyway.

Congratulations on a great shot!

Thanks, Curtis. It's actually an Eagle Owl. I think they are part of the horned owl family...but don't quote me on that. They are vey large...can get a wing span of 6 feet.

Thanks for the identification Frank, I can/did see/think "Owl" in the face but have never seen a photo of one wings outstreatched and tallons down. Always the swoope picture chasing the medow mice or the perched photo at dusk.

Your picture is taken at what time of day? I must say again what a great shot!
