I'm a photo hobbyist with a Canon 60D, I currently shoot with the kit lens 18-200, a Canon 50mm 1.8 and 50mm 1.4.

I'm seriously thinking of dropping some $ for a 70-200 2.8 but would really like some input. Also, any thoughts on a 24-70 2.8?

I want to get better, so brutal honesty will be much appreciated.

Looking forward to this journey with you! JC from Michigan

well both those L lens are pretty expensive.

I have the 70-200 2.8 L and it is heavy, so much so that I do not use it that much.
I have the 24-105 4 L and that stays on the camera all the time.
It has been suggested to me by others, Try one before you drop the $$. If you know someone try theres out for a day ro week. If not rent one.

I can't say I am sorry that I bought the 70-200 2.8 L just do not use it as much as I had though. Maybe I need to have another go of it? Also it does not have the IS feature as I blached at the additonal cost of that feature, maybe I should have considered it!

Good luck and welcome aboard!

Welcome to UHH and howdy from Houston!
I sprang for the 70-200mm f/2.8 and have not regretted it.
It is standard among serious photographers.
Great lens for many things, even portraits!

Hello Joanne, welcome to the hog. I too use a Canon 60D, and i absolutely love it. My lenses are 28-135 mm and an 18-55 mm. Both lenses are good enough for the time being. A 24-70 would be cool....My 28-135 is heavy enough for hand holding. Anything bigger would have to have a tripod in my opinion.
