It is a little translucent mushroom. As far I know it was not there yesterday, so it came alone pretty fast. Truly it stands only about 3/4 of an inch tall.

Any suggestions for birding books. Either iPad, or hard copy?

Well I guess that means I gotta change the title. In my defense, when it was flying around, it loped like a Mocking bird. I wanted to believe it was a brown one. Guess I'm gonna need a bird ID book.

This is what I have been looking for. So now I know that it can be done. Can you give details on the magic you used. namely the program and techniques. It looks like you increased the contrast and maybe brightened the darker areas. Did you use a bright filter, or change the iso in those areas?

This is a nice bit of work, thank you.

It is the first time I have used the app. and one of the first times I have tried any real PP. PLEASE take this pic apart and then me know how to make it better. I cropped away about half the image.

Perhaps you should spend some at the site before the shoot to get an idea of lighting conditions. I mean go there a day before at the same time of the shoot. Take a bunch of shots and go over them at home.

Having the luxury of two cameras is nice too. Find out if there is a secure place to put your equipment and bring both for the shoot. That way, if you feel the other camera may be better, you can use it.

Of course, if I were doing the shot the thought of using the backup camera may become too strong to resist.

OK, so I shoot in RAW, even though that format is much larger in storage. This is not an issue yet because I have a huge HD on my Mac. Now does Sharpness effect the RAW image. I think I understand that it does not. So what I am reading is image sharpness should be set low, around one or two.

I'll play around with the setting to see how it works.

Thanks all.

Another newbie question.

I don't understand why I would want to have a custom setting for sharpness. After all isn't the whole point of taking a picture having the subject in sharp detail?

OK, I use a canon 40D and in custom settings I have a range of sharpness from 1-7. What is the advantage of a lower sharpness. I want all of my subjects to be sharp and detailed. I want the eyes to show the striations (?) of the pupil.

Now I may not want to have the pimples of a teen aged subject softened, but that can be done PP.

Please shed some light onto this dim senor, I call a brain.

Your points are well taken, Lighthouse. Some just cannot hear any critique of a newborn, no matter how accurate it is. I too think that another angle, perhaps down a little may have changed perspective.

I wonder if the tone of your critiques may be the issue and not the substance. Perhaps the comments about the photographer could have been different. Yet you are who you are. For some an abrupt comment is they way they express their views. It is in the one who receives the info to judge the validity of the comment. A critique is between the subject and their mentor. If one does not appreciate the other then so be it.

I think sometimes a harsh critique can be the best, yet other times a gentle nudge can be as effective.

But this is semantics, your ideas are yours and may be taken or ignored.
