I usually carry my camera with the strap on my shoulder; but I also normally just loosely wrap my hand around the strap near the camera to cut down on the camera bouncing around while I walk. Once I had an old camera strap break while I was carrying it that way, and I was instantly able to catch the camera strap before the camera came close to the ground.

And what you did wrong was….?
Using a card that was too small?

YEP! Still have the card, but it's in its little plastic case marked "16 MB" on the outside with a red paint pen!

8 MB JVC SD card in Pentax K50:

When I try to shoot, the camera tells me the card is full.
If I try to view the card the message is “no image available.
This happens if the card is locked or unlocked.

Any suggestions as to why I’m getting these mixed messages?
Tnx

I've done that before with a 16 MB San Disk card and got similar messages. Tried formatting in the computer beforehand, formatting in different cameras before trying the card in different cameras, nothing made a difference. Took me a couple hours before I figured out what I did wrong.

I have a Vivitar 85-205 mm lens, it fits on a M42 camera body. I want to put a lens collar on the lens, but how do I known what size lens collar to use? Any information will be helpful, thank you.

don't know what your lens looks like, but I measured my older vivitar 85-205, universal thread mount, and the barrel diameter where a collar can be attached is 2.328" or about 59 mm. If you can measure yours with string & ruler and get a similar number, you might try something with an inner diameter of 60 mm if you can find one. Or find a well stocked camera store and just try different sizes until you find something close enough that you can use a shim to make it fit.

I still occasionally use my little Canon Powershot SD 780 IS camera, about the size of a deck of cards. 3X optical zoom, 12MP, image stabilized, even comes with a usable [barely] optical viewfinder for when you can't see the screen. It also has a very usable macro lens setting I use quite often for reading the tiny instructions so often found on medicines, aerosol cans, etc. these days, i.e. a digital magnifying glass. A nice little camera, seems very sturdy [I've dropped it several times with no damage]. Works great if you want to carry something in your pocket for an occasional photo. Back in its day, they got quite good reviews. They're usually fairly cheap used when you can find them.

Hello my friends,

I am leaving for a 2 week family holiday in UK later this week. As my walking ability is currently compromised I am planning to take my Canon R along for the ride and hope to spend some time taking photographs and keeping out of the way of the more active members of the family. As a property photographer I have my trusty 16-35 Ef F4 typically attached. However I do have another 2 lenses that I have barely used - RF 24-105 F4 and my RF 50mm F1.8.

If I was to take just one lens along with me, which should it be? Subjects will be family, scenery and architecture.

As always keep safe

I would definitely take the 24-105, and consider taking the 50mm along in your pocket. But preferable to the 50, I'd consider taking along a small point & shoot camera for the times the larger camera is just too much of a hassle to carry.

I store mine on the floor of the back seat; it can't fall from there. I do put it in a cheap gym bag to keep any dust from the floor off it.

I needed a back-up battery for my Nikon Coolpix A1000. Nikon's EN-EL12 battery has been on backorder for months and Nikon can't provide any information as to when they will be back in stock. In desperation I ordered an Everyready battery but that wouldn't take a charge. Based on favorable comments from Hoggers, I then ordered a Wasabi. After fully charging it, I took it for a test drive. After just 48 snaps, it was completely discharged. B&H carries two other brands: Jupio and Watson. Adaroma carries Green Extreme and Power 2000, as well as Jupio. Does anyone have any experience with any of these?

Not EN-EL12, but I have a Nikon P900 which uses EN-EL23 batteries; I had trouble with Wasabi batteries in it, but Power 2000 batteries seem to work fine. Never had any trouble with Wasabi batteries in either of my Canon or Panasonic cameras, only the Nikon.

I'm not sure if that's its actual name. They come up as volunteers in lots of yards. I tried to grow some from seeds but it didn't work. I wonder if they have to go through some animal or bird's digestive tract before the will germinate

I've seen them referred to as "Red Bird of Paradise;" there's also a similar "Yellow Bird of Paradise."

as far as photography is concerned, get an early morning start, and take lots of pictures; be prepared for crowds. If your truck is a 4x4, explore the back roads. Be sure to drink lots of water throughout the day.

Don't wait until the last minute; make camping reservations early if you know where you will be and if the campgrounds accept reservations. Be sure the campgrounds can accept a 30' trailer.

[quote=BobIn]Goal is how to select 7fps burst mode for bird/wildlife pictures... and have it saved in Program mode.
Per Alexander White's Book page 42 "Bird Watching" Scene Mode:

Scene Mode: [Menu, Scene, Bird-watching, Ok or right button, Single or Continuous) per fig 3-58 for a continuous burst of about 7 shots at 7 fps. When you press Ok or right button, there is no choice of Single or continuous, Instead the choices are: [Normal(180 degrees) or Wide(360)] and not Single or Continuous!

Program Mode: Continuous, [Single, Continuous H, Continuous L, Preshooting cache, Continuous H:120fps, Continuous H:60fps]

you need to use the "Multi selector dial", the dial surrounding the OK button, to move the highlighter down to "Bird Watching," then hit the OK button; after that you can set the camera for burst. White's book doesn't tell you that.

$53,000 + T&L? Not on your best day. Drive it for 300 miles and have to charge it for 10.5 hours.

$53K, I can buy a pretty decent 4x4 pickup for that.

I've taken numerous trips west, even lived in Nevada a few years, been to most of the national parks west of the Rockies and a lot of mountains and deserts in between, and I never tire of seeing photographs of the western USA. In fact other people's photos just whet my appetite to pack up the car or the truck and head out again! At least one or two trips scheduled for this year now that CA has finally opened up.

Hi all. I'm just asking for your 2 cents.

I currently shoot a Canon T6i with the Tamron 18-400. I also own several Canon EFS lenses and a 70-200 f4 L lens. I hardly ever use the Canon lenses, just keeping the Tamron on as my everyday lens.

That said, I'm seriously considering selling all of my current outfit and purchasing a Canon SX 740, just to simplify my photography experiences. I don't sell my photos. They're just for me, family & friends.

Is my line of thinking making any sense at all? Oh, and yes, money budget does matter.

Thanks.

If it were me, I'd keep the T6i and the 18-400 Tamron and consider selling the other lenses, except for a shorter, lighter zoom lens like a 17-55 if you have one. Then buy a quality small point & shoot like the Lumix ZS-100 for backup and days when you don't want to carry the larger Canon.
