The 10-20mm lens is one of Nikon's "AF-P" lenses. You need to make sure your camera is compatible before ordering.

From NikonUSA: AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR

The number of cameras compatible with both lenses is limited. Even for compatible cameras, firmware update may be required*. Fully compatible models: D7500, D5600, D5500, D5300*, D3400, D3300*, D500 and later models

Compatible models with limited functions: D5, D810 series, Df, D750, D7200, D7100, D5200, Nikon 1 series with the FT1

Incompatible models: D4 series, D3 series, D2 series, D1 series, D800 series, D700, D610, D600, D300 series, D200, D100, D7000, D5100, D5000, D90, D80, D70 series, D3200, D3100, D3000, D60, D50, D40 series, film cameras

I received an email today in which Nikon announced three new lenses. One looks pretty interesting, a 10-20mm DX zoom, f4.5-5.6. It's small, only 8.2 oz. (230 grams). Of course, you're sacrificing speed over the Tokina 10-16mm f2.8. There's also a AF-S NIKKOR 28mm f/1.4E ED lens and a fisheye zoom, AF-S NIKKOR 8-15mm f/3.5-4.5E ED.

FYI for future reference (and this is NOT a criticism of your topic here) - the UHH search function tracks only titles of Topics, not the content text of the Topic. If the Topic title is poorly written or is like "Problem" (which tells us nothing), Search won't pull that Topic up regardless of how helpful and cogent the thread is. If the title is
"Focusing problem -- 24-120mm lens and Nikon D610", that title gives Search something meaty to look for. I'm saying your search was not at fault if other members don't take time to word (and edit) their Topic titles very well.

Yes, the UHH search feature is terrible. Instead, you should use Google's Advanced Search to search the "www.uglyhedgehog.com" domain. Google will search all of the text, not just the title. Try it. very useful.

Check out Western Digital "My Passport". It's a battery operated, portable hard drive with an SD card reader built in.

A better, much cheaper option is to get a "Soligor" 400mm f/6.3 lens from the 1970's and 80's. This Japanese lens was sold under several different brand names. You can find them on eBay for about $40. A good copy is actually quite sharp (especially on a APS-C camera), and just as sharp wide open as at f/8 or f/11. T-mount design, so you can easily modify to fit most cameras for a few dollars. The one I have came with a Nikon F-mount. A tripod helps, especially if you are trying to focus on something close by, but I have used it hand-held in sunlight.

I'll mention one important advantage of the D7200 that is not obvious when comparing technical specs: usability or ergonomics. As you get away from entry levels cameras, you may get better performance and more features, but you also get a camera that is easier to use. Compare pictures of the back, top, and front of these two cameras. The D7100 has a lot more buttons and wheels. While that seems more complex and confusing, it really means you get to use more of the functions without having get into the menus. It also allows for more manual control of the camera. In auto mode, both cameras take excellent photos. But if you're considering a DSLR, then at some point you'll want to get away from auto, and being able to directly control the camera will make for a much more enjoyable experience.

We are planning a driving trip from Phoenix to Indianapolis, by way of El Paso, Dallas and St. Louis. Can you recommend any great photo destinations within 50 miles of our intended route?

You shouldn't miss White Sands Nat Monument for an out-of-this-world experience. You could continue on through Cloudcroft to Carlsbad Caverns for a non-interstate route. Then rejoin I-20 around Midland-Odessa.

Is this a decent introductory camera or is there something better for this price range ($850 with 2 lens). I currently have a Sony 200 SLR. Will the lens on this camera fit the a6000?

You can use the Sony 200 lens with an adapter. But it might not be worth the adapter cost for a cheaper lens. The A6000 uses the newer e-mount lenses.

What aperture are you using? A photo taken at f/1.8 will have a very narrow depth of field. Try f/8 and see if more of your photo is in focus.

I purchased a Nikkor 300mm f4.5 lens from Japan. Listed as near mint which it truly is. Anyone with a suggestion would be deeply appreciated. Thank you all.

I have the same lens, S/N 572196, cost me $250 from KEH a few years ago. Nikon made this particular 300mm lens from Nov 1981 to about 1994, with serial numbers 550181 to 584206. It's a great lens optically, but tricky to focus on a DSLR and I almost always use a tripod.

I think you can sell it on eBay for more than you paid for it. List it as "buy it now" for $250 with free domestic shipping, and be patient.

Try it again. It worked fine for me: uploaded photo, cropped it, saved it. No problems.
The photo needs enough empty space around the head so that you can size it properly, center the head, and still fill the 600x600 box before cropping. If you can't do that then you need a different photo.
(I'm using Windows 7 and the Mozilla browser, but I doubt that really matters.)

I really would like to see how you compose such a wide lense.

Flickr is a great site to browse if you want examples of photos taken with a particular lens. You can search by lens. This is a Tokina 11-16mm group. Lots of other also.

Any experience with Tiger Direct before 2016 is no longer relevant since they are now owned by a different company. Reading the Wikipedia article, it sounds like they were never that reliable anyway.

If this is a typical morning walk, I don't think you have much to complain about! Nice neighborhood!!

Settings were: Aperture f/16, ISO..100, 1/8 second shutter speed. Guessing shutter way too fast. Use a filter to slow it down?

Actually, 1/8 sec is probably about right. It depends on the effect you are looking for. But usually you don't want to completely smooth out the details of the moving water with a very long exposure. I start at 1/10 sec and then adjust up or down to see what looks best.

This photo was taken during last summer's drought in central New York. With very little water, I had to increase the time to make it look like there was more, about 0.6 sec.

Another reason to question the honesty of Abe's of Maine is that their "list prices" may be fictious allowing them to claim a bigger savings than you will actually receive.

For example, their list price for Nikon 200-500mm lens is $1499. The price directly from Nikon since introduction has always been $1399.
