You can enlarge your view (the + magnifying icon) and the blinkies will disappear. I keep the blinkies on to alert me on blown out highlights. Most advice is to keep the blinkies turned on.

I took 1500 pic of 2017 solar eclipse but used a solar filter except for 2 minutes of totality. Everyone was warned not to use an unfiltered camera

Haha

The camera was dead several minutes before the eclipse. I don't even know if I got a shot off that day with that camera. I have no idea when it actually died. Might have been days before. Just remembered setting it on the tripod to get a group shot and nothing.

I was not aiming the camera at the sun. I just wanted to capture the scene on the houseboat of the people and the landscape. I had to use my backup camera to get it all and it came through.

I sent my 7D to Canon for a repair quote after the full solar eclipse (August, 2017). Had it on a tripod for the big event and it just went dead. Canon said it was the motherboard and would be $800 to replace. I said No thank you and got the camera back. Just went and bought the 80D after that which made more sense than spending that on a camera that had its better days. I just got the R5 a couple of months ago and the 80D is sitting by its lonesome these days.

I took these last week. Gibbs Gardens located in Ball Ground, Georgia, made the list of 13 Best American Botanical Gardens.

This was my third visit there this year. On this visit I decided to use the Scene Mode for “Blossoms” in JPEG. I used a Nikon 35/1.8 lens on a Nikon D7500. This was for all photos except #4 for which I used a Panasonic LX10. I used a Scene Mode for soft focus on flowers on that one.

Beautiful shots. You must've gotten an annual pass? I did a few years ago and the fall reflections were great as well as spring. I missed the 20 million daffodils blooming as they claimed. I wished it was closer to Atlanta so I would always have an annual pass. Try Atlanta Botanical Garden as well.

Definitely possible, with primary caveats being loss of autofocus and requirement of absolutely impeccable photographic technique.

Check an October 2018 article by George Lepp in Outdoor Photographer titled "Keeping Your Distance and Claiming Your Space." Sorry I can't provide a link, but a search of Lepp and the article title quickly brings it up.

I remember that article. It was inspiring to see what can be accomplished by a pro. I couldn't remember the title or date. Here is the link to that article so your mention of the date really helped my search.

My wife got two bighorn sheep butting heads down one level. She was in flip-flops and on the edge. I thought she was getting a little too close but her pictures came out very good. The camera was a Sony DSC-H2. I convinced her to pick out a camera the year before for our first trip to Thailand.

I bought an underwater light in 2019 and now that light is sold under another company name. The light works well for the price. This year I bought a backdrop and a ring light. For the price they are adequate. All of these were bought from Amazon and usually you can get them to refund if there are defects found or you just don't like it.

George Lepp did something similar years ago with a Canon 1D, a 600mm and two 2x TC and wrote his column in Outdoor Photography (or Popular Photography). But then he gets a lot of those goodies from Canon I believe to test out. Okay I was wrong. It was 500mm. Here is the article.

Weight is one thing - carrying a super zoom with a lightweight tripod on a hike will be a lot easier to deal with. I like to do the turtles in the middle of the river in spring and summer and a super zoom is a great choice for carrying five miles. Sometimes I am lucky to see a great blue heron on the other side of the river like today but alas I only had my phone with me today. Anyway it beats a snowball.

I do the snipping after I copy the screen.

I used to do that until I found out about the snipping tool built in with Print Screen (you just have to enable it). It is very simple to use and when completed, saves it to the clipboard.

Or use the Snip & Sketch tool. Lets you crop to what you want (whole screen or less). Should be more than good enough quality for your use.

I just found out about this neat feature (snipping tool) earlier this month. To enable is a little trickier than it should be but once it is enabled it is a dream way to capture the screen and crop what you want.

You can pick up an external cd reader pretty cheaply at Best Buy or on Amazon to keep you out of the subscription trap.

Totally agree.

Years ago when the DVD drives were relegated to the dustbin of computer history, I bought an LG USB DVD reader/writer at Best Buy for $35 or thereabouts. Not the cheapest but not the most expensive either. It is rarely used today but it is nice to have it for use if needed.

I used burst mode for the Stanley Falls Flume splash down at Busch Gardens (Tampa) a few years ago. I was waiting for my daughter and her husband and his sister to come roaring down. While waiting I watched the previous riders and the kids standing near the rail waiting for the splashdown so I started taking a few shots here and there but could not capture the exact moment of all the excitement so burst mode to the rescue. To see the kids standing there and the car coming down and then all disappearing in a fog or water is hard to capture any other way (well movies would be best).
