Leon, the 70-210 f4 AF is a lens that Nikon manufactured in 1986. It is bigger than the 70-210 f4-5.6 and not precisely sharper. Auto focus, from what I know, is slower than the the f4-5.6 lens.
In some of the samples there was focus error when the lens was set to 210 mm. The lens is heavier than the f4-5.6 version.

I think that both lenses are a good alternative to the more expensive lenses of today. The Nikon 70-210 f4 is a more modern lens with better technology and better optics. My lens costs me a mere $69 and it is in like new condition. I am satisfied with its performance and I know it will serve me well. Could I ask for more?

Thank you for your interesting comments.

The thought that the f4-5.6 is sharper than the f4 comes from an evaluation by Ken Rockwell. A latter review by him states he used another f4 copy which produced equal results as the 4-5.6 model. He concluded that his first lens was defective. However the f4-5.6 does focus faster and is smaller and lighter, although not by that much. That's my opinion and I shoot both type of lenses. I also shoot the 80-200 2.8 but would not take it over the 70-210s on an extended walk because of the weight factor. Each lens has its place.

The 70-210 lens is the reason I never bought a new 70-200 f4 vr. In fact I bought two 70-210 f4 and one 70-210 f4-5.6. I prefer the f4. The f4-5.6 will focus faster but is not as sharp as the f4s and better in low light. Incidentally I started using them on a D200 and still use them with my D700 and D810. They are so cheap to buy, I can't see getting rid of them for peanuts. Enjoy your lens.

Came home yesterday and had an eagle sitting on a tree next to our chicken run waiting for dinner to leave their chicken coop. As I watched the eagle along came a flight of seven turkey vultures circling our chicken area and me. They flew as low as twenty feet off my head. I stayed out there but backed up against our house to protect my back from a strike from behind. Yes, they did scare me. Eventually they left, including the eagle, and we decided not to let any of our birds out for the day. Haven't decided on today if our birds will get out for a walk yet.
How far away was the one you shot?

Two towns in Minnesota are selling gas for $.84 a gallon. Most other locations are at $1.40. Surprisingly there are not long lines because no one is driving either.

Just got done giving myself a cut at 5am. Used a scissors and my bathroom mirror. Can't tell what the back looks like, but no one so far today has asked where did I get the cut. Personally I think it looks pretty good and i'm up sixteen bucks plus tip.

You will always grieve the loss of the D700. The D600 will take great pictures, but is not as solid a camera as the D700. Aside from the mega pics on my D810, was high on my list to replace my aging D300. Can't help you with the comparative value of your Fuji on the trade,.

We have two fry pans on the stove all the time. One is used almost every day and often more than once a day. Can't imagine a steak not fried on anything else.

The best way to control the problem here is using a 3 inch mag 12 gauge in the early morning and having them for dinner that night. These birds are not just populous in Rochester, but every surrounding area with water and corn, soybean, or grain fields.

Color is off. common mistake of overprocessing. composition needs improvement (read articles here in UHH). Pictures show your focus is off and camera shake. I've been taking pictures for over 50 years and am still critiquing my own work and learning every time I take a picture. Have fun.

Since you asked, the good news is that there is a lot of room for improvement. I would first set you camera to automatic functions after restoring factory settings. See what you get and compare it to what you just posted. Take some classes on photography and try again. Find a person locally to share your hobby with. Enjoy the journey. Keep active with UHH. Good luck.

Bob , you may have bought the camera in the US, but the serial number indicates it first sold in Japan.

My two cameras are the d700 and d810. Sometimes I wonder if I really needed the D810. If I'm outside and doing scenery I prefer the d700. Both are excellent for inside usage. Processing the d700 is faster because it only uses 12.1 megs. With the d810 I can crop more of the image. I'm not the best processor, but people I shoot for rave about pictures from either camera. For what you paid for the D700, you won't find a better camera. By the way the D3 and D700 have the same sensor. Don't worry about parts for the 700. A camera that doesn't wear out, doesn't need major service. Nine was purchased when it first came out, and has only needed sensor cleaning once.

The d7500 is a better camera but it doesn't have a second card slot. I'd spend the extra money and get the d500. I wouldn't spend the money on a D5600,
