Hello all,

Most of my photos are backed up. However, last night I uploaded photos from my recent trip to La Veta, CO. I don't like using OneDrive. I like saving my photos to the hard drive so when the network goes down, I can still access them. Last, I have a Masters in IT and a software patent. I write this not to brag (though it could sound like that) but to share just how confused I am right now because I feel that I should know this. Here's what happened.

We all know that the hard drive has directories and folders. On my computer, there is a OneDrive directory and then a separate This Computer hard drive directory. I received a notice that OneDrive was becoming overly full and would I like to purchase some additional space. No, I wouldn't. So, I deleted the files from OneDrive and thought I would keep the photos in my This Computer Pictures sub-directory. So I deleted the OneDrive photos.

Well, you guessed it. Somehow all the photos located in the This Computer Pictures subdirectory were also deleted. And no, the This Computer/Pictures sub-directory was not also highlighted.

I could have restored them from the Recycle Bin BUT my personality is such that I immediately delete files from the Recycle Bin to have as much as disk space as possible and to not let it become "cluttered" with files that I don't want. 0:(

The good news is that this is a new computer so the files from my previous trips are on on my old computer and also backed up. I am hoping (and will check after I send this ?) that I also didn't have Olympus Workspace set up to delete the files after they are uploaded. Typically, I don't...

So, moving forward, would someone please explain how deleting files in OneDrive also causes the same files to be deleted in This Computer Pictures sub-directory?

I appreciate reading your comments. Thank you in advance. Linda
Hello all, br br Most of my photos are backed up... (show quote)

Linda, I'm not familiar with Onedrive but reading the wikipedia on Onedrive the statement below is stated. This is similar to file links. This may be one reason for your dilemma. You should test this on your system with a test photo so you understand how it works. I don't use cloud type storage as I don't trust it. I like total control of my files and backups.

Files On-Demand

On Windows 10, OneDrive can utilize Files On-Demand, where files synchronized with OneDrive show up in file listings, but do not require any disk space. As soon as the content of the file is required, the file is downloaded in the background.[

Hello all you experts out there -

My husband's Canon has apparently died. I’m a Nikon person but looking for recommendations for an awesome portable camera for him, around $350-ish? Definitely with a zoom, clear precise resolution…

Thank you in advance for providing me a beginning for my research.

Take a look at the Olympus TG6. I have an older version of this camera and it takes great pictures. Also was able to take pictures under water while snorkeling in Cancun Mexico on a cruise.

I'm wanting to buy a used flash. Want to explore macro photography (especially insects). I've never bought a flash before. I've been following hedgehogs for about 4 months and I always seem to find a topic or two that is informative. Thank you.

For macro specific things you could try a macro ring like the one below:

For a general flash the one below is one of the ones I use:

ND filters help when trying to shoot long exposures with wide apertures. example: You won't be able to shoot a long exposure with a lens at a 1.8 aperture while trying to get a blurred background if the lighting is normal or bright.

They basically aid in clipping highlights and come in variable densities.

You will need a computer similar to a gaming computer and can be a laptop or desktop. Regarding a monitor then it should be an IPS Monitor and doesn't need to be 4k (see link below).

https://www.google.com/search?q=best+budget+ips+monitor+for+photo+editing&ei=f-KkYOCnCZSxtQaD-5DYAw&oq=best+value+ips+monitor+for+&gs_lcp=Cgdnd3Mtd2l6EAEYADIGCAAQFhAeMgYIABAWEB4yBggAEBYQHjIGCAAQFhAeMgYIABAWEB46BwgAEEcQsANQ8ldYsWRgjXxoAXACeACAAZkBiAGYBpIBAzAuNpgBAKABAaoBB2d3cy13aXrIAQjAAQE&sclient=gws-wiz

You will save a lot of money going with a windows system vs apple.

Not happy with results. In general, washed-out skies, colors just not true. For example, shots yesterday while kayaking under a blue sky turned out as shown. Aperture Mode F8, Auto WB, Auto ISO, Exposure 0.0. Contrasted with photos taken with the iPhone 12 Pro Max, which produced awesome color and clarity. This has been a problem I have had with this camera since purchasing it 6 months ago. To emphasize, the sky was, in reality, blue! Ideas??

If you can then try setting the WB with a kelvin setting as shown in the link below. Compare the camera's WB setting for "Daylight", "shade" and other settings to your kelvin settings. Although auto WB can usually do a good job it doesn't guarantee to be correct or consistent and can vary between photos. With a kelvin setting then the WB will be more consistent.

I’ve been shooting close ups with an AF-S Micro Nikkor 85 mm prime lens. It has a very shallow depth of field even when stopped down to smaller apertures. Getting a fully sharp photo can be challenging. Talking with a friend, we got to wondering whether a longer micro/macro lens would have a wider depth of field. Understanding this could inform a decision about acquiring another lens.

Can anyone elucidate on this issue?

Have a look at these links... Also the canon R5 and R6 have focus stacking features built in.

The R6 is an excellent camera and if you're essentially starting from scratch (you don’t already own EF Or other FF lenses). Then it would be a consideration. According to Photons to Photos the low light/high ISO performance and DR are almost exactly the same between the two. The R6 has IS and a higher frame rate, but there’s a big difference in resolution - 30MP for the 5D4 and 20 MP for the R6 and of course, there’s the battery life issue. Currently, the body prices are very similar, but the RF lenses of equivalent FL and speed are more expensive. It really comes down to whether you’re willing to trade 50% less resolution for IS, a faster frame rate, an articulated screen and the other MILC features, and if you’re willing to start from scratch with RF lenses. Yes, you an use EF lenses with an adapter (which adds length and weight), but if you want the all the advantages of the new system, the new (and expensive) RF lenses are a big part of that.

Thanks for noticing this but in the video below if you watch the whole video you will see you can simply upscale the images to whatever size you like with a sizing app (I use "Exposure x6 Blow UP" but the video uses "Topaz Gigapixel". Although I have no problem with image resolution when I crop my images. If you can see any difference in the images compared in this video then I would be really surprised and you would have the most perfect vision in the world... LOL!

I have an opportunity to upgrade my camera from a 7D purchased in 2010. I am looking at the 5D mark 4 or 6D mark 2. I focus mostly on nature photography and now getting more interested in street photography. I’ve been reading some reviews but would like to hear what other canon users think, (apart from the price difference)

Thanks

For the price I'm not sure why you wouldn't consider the R6. It has better low light performance, unbelievable eye tracking for humans and animals and in-body image stabilization just to mention a few advantages. I it has a bigger buffer size as well. It can use both EF and EF-s lenses and adds image stabilization to any lenses which don't have image stabilization.

I bought one and my keeper rate of photos went way up. The focus tracking and low light performance is well worth it alone. Buy the adapter if you have canon lenses and they will work fine or better because of the in-body stabilization.

I'm not trying to sell you but thought you may not have considered it and not aware of it's advantages. See below for a comparison.

Greetings,

I want to buy a new DSLR Canon camera body with ALL these features:
1. Full Frame Sensor (NOT MIRRORLESS)
2. 4K Video Recording
3. Built-In Viewfinder
4. EF Lens Mount
Does Canon currently make a camera with all these features?

I'm not sure why you're limiting yourself to these features. I recently moved from the 6D to the R6 and wouldn't look back.

The R6 has really good low light performance, in body image stabilization which works with their lens stabilization. Auto eye focus for both animals and people which is one of the best in the industry. It also will use adapters which allows any older canon lenses to be used which works with my EF lenses. This ads the cameras body stabilization to non-stabilized lenses. What's not to like about mirrorless cameras?

Below are a few pics I recently took with it of my daughter and friends before going to prom. These were taken with my EF 40mm pancake lens with adapter and godox V1 flash.

Buy Godox gear from Tim Payne's website for double the warranty in the US and personal support. He also has seminars throughout the country during the year. Although they've been on hold during the pandemic. I Think he's about to start them up again.

If this drive you're buying is not used to backup your files then I would also buy their 5 TB drive as they are on sale currently. The 2 TB drive is only $59 and their 5 TB drive is only $99.
