Hello all you experts out there -

My husband's Canon has apparently died. I’m a Nikon person but looking for recommendations for an awesome portable camera for him, around $350-ish? Definitely with a zoom, clear precise resolution…

Thank you in advance for providing me a beginning for my research.

I like sites where you can compare cameras. Two that I use are Camera Decision and SnapSort (which happens to be down right now).

The only pocket camera I carry is the best one on the market because it does everything my big Sony's, Canon's and Nikon's do.
The Sony HX99. Zeiss (the best) 24-720 mm zoom, pop up viewfinder for accurate framing, shots RAW, auto fill flash at the press of a button, rear screen folds up for low angle shots, does panoramic shots, you can print up to 20X30 sharp prints. In other words, this little guy does it all, trust me on this.

Look at the Canon Powershot G series. There are several different models, G1, G5, G7, G9. They all have a slightly different zoom range and features. For example, the G7 have a movable / tilting rear viewfinder, the G9 does not. These are pocket-size, about the size of a deck of cards. But, the prices might be above your budget? Sony has a similar line of Cybershot cameras that seem to have more options and a wider price range, from more than $1000 down to $129, with different features and zoom range, and also about the same size as a deck of cards.

Please reread post before being snarky, she said $350.ish ?.
Do you know what "?" means. I believe she is open to higher or lower prices if it fits with what she is looking for.
Do you know what "ish" means, I believe she again is open to alternatives.
And lastly, I was only being helpful trying to point her in the right direction. You have become very mean lately.
Have a great day, I will.

Might need a hundred responses to see which three say the same camera.

Hello, Eileen. Can I recommend you take a look at the Panasonic DMC ZS80 camera? It is well within your price range, fits in the pocket of Hubby's shirt, and has a wonderful lens reach for travel. And, if you purchase from a major site you can get a 30 day home trial and he can return the camera if it does not fit his needs.

https://www.amazon.com/PANASONIC-Vario-ELMAR-Megapixels-Sensitivity-DMC-ZS60K/dp/B07NQFLLT4/ref=sr_1_1?crid=23LUZ0CNZJA2W&dchild=1&keywords=panasonic%2Bzs60%2Blumix%2B4k%2Bdigital%2Bcamera%2B18.0%2Bmp%2Bblack&qid=1621772349&s=electronics&sprefix=Panasonic%2BZS60%2Caps%2C1113&sr=1-1&th=1

Good luck to you and hubby with your final choice.

If your hubby is interested in editing images, look at bodies that capture in RAW. Most of these options, the Canon, Sony and the Panasonic above, capture in RAW around 20MP, meaning you can edit a result about as much as desired.

True, but didn’t you just looooove his presentation ? Ask for an elevator pitch and you get a feature length drama.

OK, there was clearly some over acting, but audiences seem to like that, maybe cuz it renders live players as cartoonish characters that are quick and easy to digest ... like empty carbohydrates.

Could be too true about the numbers, but there isn’t that much difference between boxes with glass eyes, so you can’t really go wrong. Just buy with a friendly returns policy and see if it’s puppy love. IOW the magnitude of the decision is quite small compared to the overwrought concern of so many advisors.

I bought a really nice one and kept it beyond the returns period. Kept it long enough to realize I’m just intolerant of pocket cameras. If you happen to like them, you don’t complain about various quirks and foibles and so you’ll never be caught with no camera, never naked in public. Well really almost nobody ever goes naked, but most are very happy with a phone.

Gorgeous!!

What about the Panasonic Lumix LX10? Sold for about $800 when first introduced but now for about $479. Can anyone weigh in re this model?
