I received a call before Christmas asking if I could photograph a family group. It was to be outside by the old train depot. I'm thinking, "December 23rd? Our family is busy for Christmas... and Man that's gonna be cold...is it worth it to me?" In the end I decided to go ahead and do it for them. Below is one of the group shots with Grandmother, children, and grandchildren.

I decided to do a quick picture of the grandmother by herself even though that had not been requested. She has an upcoming birthday next week, her 80th. Sweetly she agreed to sit in the cold a few more minutes for my quick shot of her.

Below you will see a group shot and the individual picture. She looked great and was having fun. Why was this session so important you ask? Today they buried this sweet lady. No one expected it, who could have known. To top it off she died on the exact same date as her husband did 18 years ago.

Bottom line, when you think photography isn't important think again. What is left after her things are divided or sold at estate sales? Portraits remain for future generations. By the way this has happened to me a few times before. We never know. So take your pictures even when you don't think its important. It is!

So sorry to hear this sad story, thank you so much for sharing. I have a very good friend that just found out he has Stage IV Renal carcinoma that has metastasized and I spoke with his wife and told them that I would be honored to take some family photos for them. I told her I was not a professional by far, but that I believed it was an important thing to do. They have agreed. Will probably do it in the next week or two. He is currently in the ICU and right now, I am not able to visit.

Sheila, so sorry to hear about your friend. Cancer raises its ugly heard way to often. Its great that you are going to do some photographs of the family. I hope he gets out of ICU soon and is able to have that done. Thanks for sharing.

You know....I always say..."I work in a hospital and I am around every kind of contagious disease that their is and none of them scare me as much as Cancer does. Cancer scares me because it is so unpredictable and can hit anyone, anywhere, anytime!"[/quote}

I have been saying for years that when you snap a photo you freeze that moment in time for ever , and nothing will change and your memories will return.

Seems to me, there was a recent thread about how pro photographers are suffering because of the "$2.00 prints"; if you were that professional photographer/mom and pop, would you feel the same?

Yes.

Sounds like a photo contest is in the making here. So I will move on.

Hello, this is a photo of my niece Tabitha. I just can't seem to get a decent photo of her no matter how hard I try. Tabitha cries after every shoot and tells me my camera makes her look like a ghoul. Any suggestions?

A paper bag might help.

Try adding a little contrast .

Be careful with Gimp. I downloaded it and it came with a virus. Took the Geeksquad (thank goodness I was still in their program!!) over 4 hours to clean up my computer. I use Picasa and Picnik. I would like to download some of the ones suggested on this site.... however I am a bit nervous to do so at this time. :)

Well I had to call geeksquad about 3 weeks ago, dont know how I got the virus. It took them 3 hours to clean up the mess. that makes me very nervous as well.

You don't seem to have much trouble finding good shots, too bad their a little blurry. Take a few pics in "auto mode" Look at them on your "live view" and see what the camera chose for your settings and go from there. Your right though, they always look better on your "live view". The blurry pics must be from Camera shake. When your ready to take a pic, breath in and as your slowly exhailing, snap the pic. SQUEASE the shutter release, don't push it! Hope this helps

Thanks...I find all kinds of great shots......i just have trouble getting them sharp...... the other day i told my wife that I was the Forest gump of phooootaaaaagraphy. she said "don't insult Forest"

The purpose is to find out your view, not to go on and on about how I feel about it . I don't post pics , and dont have anything to say about other pics other than thats good or very good. I shoot my pics and I am my very own worst about scrutizing my pics and I suppose that will not change.

All of the other post are there to find your view and not to go on and on about the subject. Thank you Pepper.

However I feel that I have brought out on some other post rather insulting remarks and degrading remarks . That went way of the subject , However that did not matter to me .That was them and not me. Again thank you.

Security guards are not the brightest bulb in the package, they know nothing rights or law . taking a photograph does not make you a terrrorist, or a security threat . They do like to obstruct you and pretend they have power they can display. They have a job to do its not to impede your activities, they are there to prevent theft and observe problem areas.
