Perhaps your CD/DVD recorder is set for a proprietary file form such as Roxio has... you would just need to download and install their free UDF reader on your dad's PC. When burning your disks, make sure your program's Options or Preferences are set to standard "authoring" which can be read by the average computer.

I too think your problem is on the sensor. I would lock up the mirror and try an air bulb but leave any cleaning with swabs, etc. to the camera shop.

Since you intend to shoot through your kitchen window, you may be able to use the IR (infra red) beam as the beam, pointed at the camera, will bounce off the window and reflect back. Aim from different angles. This should be a temporary solution until your RF controller arrives.
Good luck.

I carry a Canon P&S everywhere I go, just in case I see a flying saucer. Would sure hate to miss that photo op! But unlike a DSLR the recycle time of P&S's is very slow and frustrating... especially if you also use the built-in flash.

Eagles aren't angry, they're singular, strong, watchful, a little stern (not Howard) and their talons are that big stick someone, long ago, told us to carry.

I actually feel sorry for Canada. Whenever Americans are disgruntled, they threaten to move there. I don't think it's fare to Canada to have a bunch of malcontents moving to their beautiful country.

During the Revolutionary War, the Loyalists fled to Canada.
During the Civil War, many slaves fled to Canada.
During and after the Great War (I), Hutterites and Mennonites fled to Canada.
During the Vietnam Conflict, draft dodgers fled to Canada.
And now Republicans! This may just close the border.

Ken says that all most people (common folk, not professionals) really need is a camera that has 3-6 megapixels for their photos. Do you agree with this? Why or why not? Also, for my own understanding of these kinds of things, if I am considering purchasing either a Nikon D5100 or the new D3200, does the D3200 have any advantage since it has 24 megapixels as compared to the 16 in the D5100? In other words, what differences would I notice in my photos between the two? If you can provide a photo of a lower pixel camera and a higher one to show any differences, that would be appreciated.

I disagree completely...no body needs a camera, period. The so-called "need" is actually a desire to cling to occasions that bring pleasurable memories to the front of the mind. That's all commie BS. Anyone who has a camera is a dirty red commie especially anyone who buys a camera made in Asia where all the commies are.

Hey Freedom,WITH SEDITIOUS COMMENTS LIKE THAT, NO WONDER YOU ARE IN HIDING. I used to have a butterfly making love to a flower from my garden as an avitar---after shots from Canon and Nikon Pro Wannabees that rivalled the cannons from the 1812 Overture, I changed to my current area 51 sign. Don't ask how I got it nor how close I was to the run way. Since you are in hiding, you might want me to send you a copy.

Getting into Area 51 is easy.
Getting back out with photo evidence is hard.

>>>CTP: What a concept! Admission that all photographers with expensive equipment aren't perfect? Maybe that faint smell of Dectol and hypo brings on memories of hours in the darkroom to get one good image---any one remember dodging tools?....C[/quote]

Personally, I do miss darkroom work... dim red light, rolling exposed film onto reels, the smell of developer, drying prints hanging everywhere. Now it's the smell of hot electronics and ink jets.

When film and processing were a significant expense, most took more care composing and waiting for just the right moment. This often mean't missing the right moment.

As digital is so cheap it doesn't make practical or economic sense to compose or wait for the perfect shot. It is so easy to shoot everything and then keep only the best.

Windows has a USB safe eject program that should be run before un-plugging USB's to prevent file corruption as the stick could still be in the act of being finalised.

My guess is a variety of squash. Could be wrong but the ragged leaves and furcated curled petals look about right from my junior gardening days (60 odd years ago).

wrr, I like your uncropped shot best. The surrounding darkness gives a strong sense of space and peace contrasting with the far distant violence of lightning strikes. I think it's a visual poem.
