Science class in Jr. High.
Someone came in and told our teacher.
He told us.

I, too, was in my Physics class High School, sophomore, when we were interrupted with the news. Part of my trip home was on the Chicago Eisenhower rail line to another CTA bus line to where I lived. As I recall, it was one of the quietest trip on an otherwise tumultuous segment of my trip home. It was very obvious that it hit the people around me very hard.

Golden hour, on the siding just west of Gilman, Indiana (east of Alexandria).

What is the most interesting to me here is that I don't believe I have ever seen railroad cars with consecutive numbers before. Seen here are two through five, but the entire sequence ran one through ten. I have been watching trains on this track and others for as many of my eighty-one years as I can remember, but this is a first.

This same photo is also posted in the Gallery section.

Georgetown Rail Equipment Company (GREX) is now part of Loram Rail Maintenance company.Equipment. Lot of interesting rail equipment from that group.

The American Legion among others has publications listing do's and don'ts for the flag. My main source of ire with the flag's disrespect is seeing it flown on a moving vehicle. Any vehicle traveling more than fifteen (15) mph should have the flag furled (rolled up and covered) to prevent damage.

Just for the record. All claimed "Dos and donts" for flags are not official decrees. They are suggestions. The DoD rules are for the military only, not for the general populace.

As to the "flying" the colors, blame that on race tracks and Hollywood, besides other sporting events.

IF you read my response, I have not denigrated your opinion or stated anywhere that mine was the correct one - only that it is shared by by many other veterans, which is true. I’ve treated you respectfully and said that we can agree to disagree. What more do you want?

I don’t understand your forked tongue metaphor. You seem angry and somewhat virulent in your attitude about the flag. You mentioned you are a veteran - did you have some bad experience with the military that is fueling this anger?
IF you read my response, I have not denigrated you... (show quote)

Ask yourself why the flag outweighs the principle, in your mind. You may get a light bulb go off for you.

I cannot agree. The flag is not personal expression, it’s a national expression/symbol. In this badly polarized/politicized nation of ours, a little national unity would be a positive change. Personally, I am comforted by the playing of the national anthem at sporting events. Patriotism and tradition may seem corny or irrelevant to you, but I have a different opinion, so we can agree to disagree in a respectful manner. That freedom is guaranteed to you by the document you referenced and defended by those who typically (but apparently not always) respect the symbol of their country.

Peace.

A forked tongue still goes opposite ways.

And you insist that your interpretation is correct because? Your own statements betray you. You put your symbology above the principles.

For the record, your opinion is just your opinion. It is no better that anyone else's opinion.

I've heard something about that as graduate student... What was your professor's name?

Off the top of my head, something like "Duesenberg".

I show the kids how to answer many geometric questions with multiple choices by drawing the figure and use the ruler.

Did you use the trick of using a map, two sticks, two wells, two triangles, and the sun to work out the circumference of the earth?

My college Calc prof spent the first two days showing how Einstein could have skipped five mathematical steps when working on his E=MC Squared concept. (It was the prof's thesis! Don't ask me, I lost my notes over a half century ago.)

I wasn't born in the USA. I came to the USA when I was 20 year old. So I obtained a GED by taking the test. Most of them were easy but of course I had no education on the American History so for that subject I asked them if I can use the calculator in the test? They said yes so I programmed it to generate the random answers. I did pass it though.

I always got a kick out of those multiple-guess questions in the tests.

If you see a pattern within the first twenty......... Never mind. Always keep a well sharpened No. 02!

And yet you have no special respect for the flag, or am I misunderstanding you?

I have no *special* respect. Not the *special* respect as shown by a large number of self-declared "patriots".

The flag is a personal expression. Nothing more. And personal is individual. The "thinking" is done by those who do choose to think.

Side Note. Why is it necessary to play the Anthem at sporting events? Which side represents the US? In the Olympic games, which are international venues, it makes sense to play the various anthems, to honor the participating national teams.

I hate messages like this. I was typing an email, and this popped up.

"Something Went Wrong - Changes were not saved."

What changes? How could the computer not know? I didn't do anything that had to be saved. Stupid computer!

A couple of weeks ago, I started to get pop-up ads for talking to "willing" women. I did the steps to determine source et al. It took me two days to track it down to a downloaded packet. I think it was an attachment to something I looked at on line. I did get rather frustrated when I couldn't get the source that I started to look at what I had gotten the last few days. It was in my USERS group under USERS, USERS. I checked each activity by most recent date when I got the last pop-up. I moved the folder into Recycle Bin. That cleared it out and a couple of days I jettisoned it out. So far, so good.

The women decided to be un-willing.
