Mighty pretty, Mike! I'm glad you got there, too.
Beautiful! How have I missed this arch??? Where is it?
Mighty pretty, Mike! The air was much clearer for you that day than it was for us. How about some more that show the horseshoe bend in the river?
Thank you, Chopper Bill, for your photos of the Mesa Arch and the Washer Woman. By getting up very early, you deserved gorgeous photos!
Definitely standing today! I can't tell that they have changed any in 50 years.
My final Washer Woman photo was taken from the White Rim Trail. The fact that my teen-age daughter, also in the photo, is now almost 64 years old tells you this is a very old photo. Look closely and you can see the Washer Woman on the right. A very different view of her than from through Mesa Arch away up there on the hill.
I thank all of you for your kind words, but it was oure luck in being at the arch at the right time for the right shadows.
I goofed and this got away from me before I could mention Angel Arch. When I guided my friends to this great Arch over 35 years ago, at first sight of the arch, Rosalyn exclaimed, "This arch will be on my headstone!" I thought, "Oh yah." But now Angel Arch IS on their headstone! Recently I discovered another grave marker not far from theirs that has a similar picture of the Rainbow Bridge. Did we start something? Luen
A few days ago when I posted photos of the Mesa Arch someone asked about the Washer Woman Arch. For sure, with the light conditions then, it didn't show up. So I decided to show you some photos I took about 40 years ago where the Washer Woman is very visible. Light and shadows make the difference.
It is a beautiful place. I'm glad to can come see it. There is a lot more beautiful stuff right there very close just waiting for you.
You are all very kind. Thank you so much for your great comments. Luen
Rick, since you asked I can't be rude and not answer--I am 94--95 in May if I should live so long! I'm really feeling it today, but I'm still very happy to have made that hike. About the Washer Woman, Since there was no sunlight on it or behind it she did not show up. It took some real looking to make out that formation. On my slides from away back she stands out beautifully.
Philo, the sign says it is a half mile to the arch. It is really a beautiful hike and not too steep. I thank all of you for your nice comments and would hope that everyone gets there at least once in your life. And it was so great to have only a few others around close. That is because this is February. But the weather was beautiful and there was even just a bit of snow in the shady places.
