Reduce the size in PSE or one of the other programmes. If viewed on screen, nobody will be able to tell the difference

Why bother? Are you satisfied with what you have or have you exhausted the possibilities using it? If you really, truly need whatever the new camera has, then maybe but don't forget, nothing will make you a better photographer other than practice and your own dedication.
Don't apologise for 'only' taking in j.peg. I have more in life than wasting time messing around with RAW editing and only use j.peg in any camera. You can edit j.peg very easily and get great results. To answer your question, although I am a great fan of B&W and used it almost exclusively with my film cameras, I prefer the colour version of your photograph.

oldtimercameras.com (in UK) will print and spiral bind just about any camera manual you care to think of. Probably cost about £9.
