I took this shot earlier this year with my Nikon D600 while on vacation in Panama. I like it but can't decide which is more impactful - color or B&W. Unfortunately, I shot in JPEG instead of RAW (somewhat newbie to RAW). I've included the original files so the meta data is available. The photos have minimal post-processing (also a newbie in LR).
I just joined the forum recently and would appreciate any and all opinions (and even some sarcasm I see on the forum!) on:
B&W vs color
Composition
Bokeh
even....is it a good photo?
etc.
Thanks!
Welcome to our forum!
I prefer the color shot. I often wonder if we would even have B&W photography if the early inventors were able to do color right away. Your B&W shot is very nice, but I generally prefer color.
I prefer the color. In this case I think the B&W is a bit over done.
Don't apologise for 'only' taking in j.peg. I have more in life than wasting time messing around with RAW editing and only use j.peg in any camera. You can edit j.peg very easily and get great results. To answer your question, although I am a great fan of B&W and used it almost exclusively with my film cameras, I prefer the colour version of your photograph.
I'm partial to B&W but, here I'm going with the color.
IMOP, the color works better here...great contrast in colors of the aging wheel vs the newness of the greenery. This contrast is lost in the b&w.

Color for me.
The textures are bit much in the b&w (textures blending in with each other).
Keep in mind, I'm just a Snap Shot Guy.

Color.
Don't ever apologize or suggest imperfection in any picture you post. Post it and wait for the critiques to tell you what you should have done.
I like the shot.

Color! The reddish color on the spokes makes it more interesting. "It "spoke" to me". lol
I think people look amazing in B&W. For this subject, go with color. As for jpeg? It's easier to edit. Make no apologies and keep doing you! Happy shooting.
I like the b&w version...after many years in a darkroom developing and printing black and white, there are many ways to print the photo using various filters and playing with the natural contrast between the lichen and moss on the wheel. I see opportunity for a cool print! Thanks.

New avatar! You look younger.
I like the BW version. It has greater depth of tones than the colour.
