Relax... everything is "just fine" and the Administration is doing a great job. Doubt it? Just consider the following analogy of the US Federal financial position (including the negotiated bi-partisan spending cuts) restated as a family budget and you'll see that all is going well.

When Reagan took office, the national debt was a bit under $1 trillion. At the end of Bush II, the national debt was a bit over $10 trillion. Most of the national debt was incurred under Republican administrations. Clinton was responsible for about $1.5 trillion of that amount.

Where do you think the nation MIGHT have been without the free-spending policies of Reagan, Bush I and Bush II?

Cutting taxes while taking the nation to several wars has driven us to the edge of bankruptcy. And no, Obama has not helped matters, but the Republicans bear at least as much blame for the present situation as Obama.

Bush did add over 4 trillion to the national debt over a period of 8 years.

The wars you mention totaled less than the recent "economic stimulus" programs and a great deal of the remaining increase came from historic investments in public education and a number of other social programs.

Regarding Clinton, the net debt increase was reduced by his near 20% defense cuts that later turned out to have been ill-advised and, necessarily, reappeared under the Bush years as a debt increase.

Obama has added 5 trillion in three years and we are on-track for that to increase to more than 10 trillion in just over 8 years (assuming no new spending, no unexpected added costs in enacting recent legislation and with no further decrease in the GDP). That is a doubling of our debt and takes our finances to a state similar to Greece and Italy.

If you're seriously going to defend that economic policy going forward, then you and I are not seeing the same fiscal ballpark. Heck, we're not even playing the same sport.

As opposed to left wing broadcasting telling us everything is just fine?

Really? Can you name any 'left wing' broadcaster who says this?

Or am I misunderstanding you?

Cheers,

R.

Take your pick of the three major non cable network news departments. Oh they DO report bad news... EXCEPT when it concerns the present administration. Then they get very creative with their editing (Remember the NBC debacle?) Fair and balanced is a concept in news reporting that many in the business(right or left wing) cannot grasp, and I don't see that happening anytime soon

Cheers 2

I suspect much of the United State's problems come from 24 hour a day right wing broadcasting telling people how bad things are.

It's turning into a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Could any of you give me some suggestions for photo ops in and around Las Vegas? Not the strip, but outlying scenic areas within an hour or two driving distance. We'll be spending a lot of time around the Rio Secco Golf Club watching the college teams compete for the WAC Championship. Could you point me in a direction to get some nice scenic shots, maybe around sunrise/sunset? Also tell me what kind of lens you would use in whatever specific locale you are suggesting. (I have a 50mm, a super-telephoto 500mm, a macro, and a wide angle for a Nikon D300.) Thanks!

I would put Valley of Fire number one. Red Rock Canyon is the closest to Vegas. Death Valley will take a day to see parts of it. We got so interested that we went back the second day. Pahrump on the way to Death Valley has Nevada's only Winery. They also have an excellent restaurant. Mojave Desert also is a short distance out of Vegas. The other sites that are referenced are interesting also. I have pictures of most of these areas on my website http://www.photosbyswede.com Have a good trip
