I am thinking the same way. I have a full size Nikon DSLR with two heavy zoom lenses.
Considering the Sony RX series (100-600) - much better for travel, but still exceptional quality. Compact Leica another consideration.

There is information on this blogsite that a D880 from Nikon is on the radar. Delayed intro from 2020 and due any day now in 2021.
No detailed infor, but certainly that is the reason for the $500 rebate on the D850.
I will wait to see what the new model offers.

Right now there are several retailers offering a $500 instant factory rebate on the D850. That prompted me to think it might be being phased out and a new updated model coming soon.
The information many of you provided has been very helpful. Dilemna, do I sell my D500 keeping the two FX zoom lenses (which would be perfect for the D850) or just do nothing for now. Many responses have implied that the D850 is the last DLSR Full frame that will ever be built by Nikon. Does anyone have a suggestion of a market for the D500 to sell? Two yrs old, low clicks.
Thanks everyone for your valuable responses.

This information is very valuable. Guess I will wait for the D850 upgrade.
I already have two FX zoom lenses for my D500 and I am interested in a F body.
(I will then have a low-click D500 for sale)
Thanks.

I wish to upgrade my format to Full FX.
Does anyone know about Nikon's plans for a new model such as a D860 or D900?
I do not wish to purchase a D850 and have it out of date in the near future.
(I currently have a D500 which I will sell, and two FX lenses.)
Thanks.

Hi Larry -
Your comments are very valuable and helpful. Thank you. I am very happy with the D500. I was only thinking that full-frame might be better for me as in the future having only one body. Your points are making me wonder if having both bodies would be an option. Getting a 18-300 dx for the D500 and selling both of my fx lenses was a previous thought. This information is complicated. Wife thinks selling everything and getting a shirt-pocket Sony is more practical (she thinks cell-phone pics are acceptable). A quote: "The best camera is the one you have with you all of the time." For me, lugging a 15 lb bag or "stuff" on vacation is getting a little old. Thanks again for your professional comments. Keeping the D500 with two FX zooms is still an option.

My D500 works just fine.
Just ready for full frame if it is worth it (the price).
Is there a D 900 on the horizon?

I have a D500 and two full frame zoom lenses.
I am wondering if it would be better to upgrade to a D850 or mirrorless.
Will my current lenses be adaptable to a mirrorless, or is the D850 full frame a better idea.
Thanks.

I have a D500 and have never shot video. Don't even know how to do it. No need. At least not yet.
The video on my wife's $1,000 Apple smartphone is really crappy (actually, so are the pictures). Guess I should learn on the DSLR if I ever want decent quality. Thanks for the infor.

I have also been searching for a replacement to my Leica C-Lux "shirtpocket."
After much research, I am leaning to the Sony RX series.

With my D500, I have two zoon lenses. The 16-85 is the one I use 95% of the time. Yes, I know, I am using a F lens on a D body. But it works !
