I have been using a Canon G9 for my compact camera for quite some time and am now considering an upgrade to compliment my DLSR. I've done quite a bit of research online, but just can't seem to find one that has all the features I'd like to have in a compact and wonder if anyone out there has any recommendations. The key features I would like to have are:
1. At least a 1" sensor. Bigger is better, but this generally means less zoom range, bigger overall size, etc.
2. A quality built-in Viewfinder. This is a must have for me, I'm not interested in an add on viewfinder!
3. A quality, fast lens with a viable zoom range of 5X or better, f/2.8 to f/11 or better.
4. Typical exposure controls, Auto, Program, full manual, A-Priority, S-Priority, and Program modes.
5. Fully articulated screen. I might settle for a tiltable screen, but would much prefer the fully articulated.
6. Fast, preferably phase detect auto focus system.
7. At least 1080p video capabilities, preferably with good auto track focus.
8. Built in flash and/or hotshoe to mount one.
8. Truly pocket sized body. Whether sealed would be a plus, but not a deal breaker.
9. I would like to keep the price under $1000.00, but will consider revising that for the right camera.
Anyway, I so far haven't found anything that really meets these criteria and I'll probably have to settle for something less. I currently have some interest in the Sony RX-100 series and the Lumix ZS-100, as possible runners-up. Any further suggestions would be appreciated and further researched! Good luck and good shooting to all.

Forget ZS100. I use one routinely. It’s only half the tool it claims to be. Given that I already own it, I use the half that meets expectations. Your wish list suggests your expectations are even grander than mine were.
The G5x II looks like a good candidate, but so far I can't find info. on the focus system used or what the minimum aperture is on the lens. Can anyone help with these parameters?

Probably a very good suggestion. You will have to decide with any choice, which compromises you are willing to accept. With at least a pop-up viewfinder this one sort of checks your boxes. There than that weakness, got are good. Before you make up your mind you should go somewhere that you can handle them. I was keen for years to get have a small camera. The search became a hobby that I abandoned some years ago.

Canon g 5x ii or Lumix lx100 ii (essentially a Leica D-Lux 7 for less)

I disagree. I have one and find the only shortcomming is the flash is very weak. But that is typical for cameras of this size. Also, the LCD screen is fixed. Also, you need big pockets. I suppose the model with greater zoom range (DC-ZS200) should also be mentioned.

Thanks for the specs page, but it still doesn't tell me what the minimum aperture is and some if not most of these small cameras only stop down to around f/8. At least for me, that could be a deal breaker. Anyone know what the Canon G5X II actually does stop down to?

Hmm, couldn't find it either. If I were guessing, I'd say f/8, if guessing. dpreview has good sized sample gallery and I didn't see anything lower than f/8.
I'd call Canon customer service, 1 (800) 652-2666, and ask.

.
The flash is its only real shortcoming ? Clearly, we two are verrrry different users. I didn’t know it has a flash :-)
Based on my continuous use of this half baker tool, and considering the user’s wish list, I stand by my warning that the ZS100 would be decidedly disappointing.
It’s not terrible deal at it’s current reduced price of $400, which reflects its real value. But the OP’s wish list, or even a slightly compromised version of it, calls for more camera than $400 dollars can buy.

The user states a budget of $1000 and that is closer to reality. High quality miniaturized devices ain’t cheap. The ZS100 is cheap. In its price range you find small, but not miniature, cameras of better build, better IQ, and better features ... but of less zoom range and less MP.
Examples include the Lumix GX85. When the same maker sells two cameras for about the same price, you KNOW that the one with the vastly more impressive specs suffers some serious compromises.
The Canon G5X MkII stops down to f/11, per the specifications list.

Do you have a link? I looked at a bunch of specs and didn’t see anything other than max aperture.
