Many thanks. Terrific images by the way. I'll likely be shooting free hand but I think I'll be ok.
I recently purchased a Nikon D7200 and, due to circumstances, the evening of the 4th will be my first night shooting opportunity. I'll be in a boat shooting fireworks in Bar Harbor, Maine. I'd like some pointers on how to achieve superior images, please. My kit includes all Nikon lenses with AF and VR: 18-200mm, 70-300mm, 105mm, 35mm 1:1.8G, 18-55mm, 55-200mm. My first choice would be the 18-200 but will defer to recommendations from those of you who have experience shooting fireworks.
I have the following brand new HP ink cartridges (Packaged in their respective boxes) that I can no longer use because I've changed printers. I'm asking $75 for the whole batch which would normally cost about $130. First person to contact me gets the deal.
1 564 Magenta (normal price $12.99)
1 564 Cyan ($9.99)
1 564 Photo ($12.99)
1 564XL Black ($25.99)
1 564XL Yellow ($22.99)
1 564XL Cayan ($22.99)
1 564XL Photo ($22.99)
I attended a weekend LR CC workshop a few weeks ago at Maine Media Workshops & College, Rockport, Maine. It was excellent - BUT - as with most classes & courses, it requires diligent application, practice, trial & error at home afterward.
During my first career, a quarter century in the Navy, I learned to drink copious amounts without suffering ill effects. In fact, it was a necessity for staying awake on mid-watches. I will never admit to the possibility that with advancing age (and a weakened bladder) I'm less able to tolerate it. :-P
It was home-ground Starbucks and I make it so strong that it probably gave me the shakes. :)
I had already taken half a pot onboard so, unfortunately, I can't use that as an excuse for my ineptitude. But thanks for the life preserver anyway.
Third or fourth cup of coffee or step #3 or #4? :-)
For those of you who want to know whether an SD card loaded with images can withstand being dropped into a full cup of coffee, the answer is yes. Here is the 10-step image-recovery process:
1. Place full coffee cup beneath card reader
2. While trying to insert SD card (with 500 images) into the card reader, inadvertently drop it into fresh, near boiling coffee.
3. Plunge fingers into the coffee cup while exclaiming @#!%$!
4. Since coffee is too hot to retrieve the card, dash into adjacent bathroom and dump coffee into the sink - pluck the card before it drops out.
5. Rinse the card in cold water and pat dry with towel.
6. Grab the Electric SD Card dryer (hair dryer) from cabinet and direct the hot air directly on the card for 30 seconds. Hold the card with fingers otherwise it'll blow off the counter into the sink. Try not to burn fingers again.
7. Return to PC and re-insert card into the reader and utter prayer.
8. If images are seen successfully uploading, thank the gods.
9. While images are uploading, return to kitchen to refill coffee cup.
10. Return to office and place coffee cup several feet from card reader.
I use it too but am trying (after attending a weekend workshop on the subject)to come up to speed on Lightroom so I can leave Picasa behind. I've used Picasa for years and have not seen a noise reduction capability.
