That is the point, I don't want to view 10K photos, just want to update my folders to show people. Can it be done, certainly!! Is it easy as Windows? Not even close, it is a nightmare!!!! Other than that I love my Ipad but this is the only reason I spent good money to buy it. Big mistake.

I under stand what you say! But to view 10,000 images would take a few weeks. I just down load the latest one's then delete from my ipad

I do all my processing on my PC. When I go out to show people my work I take the IPad. I have over 10,000 images on my PC and have no disire to download them all to my IPad. I have several folders on the IPad such as Portraits, Landscapes, Insects, birds, etc. I add to or updat when I have additions or have taken better shots than what is on the Ipad. Maybe I am unique but I don't think so. That is why I think Apple has made a mistake making it so difficult to do what I want to do.

I agree Wahawk. The only Senior pic we had was what was in the annual and we certianly had a suit on. I think these new ones are really nice. I can see how in 20 years or more it would be fun to look back on pictures like these instead of what's in my annual. I was so cute in my suit and pimply (probably not a word) face. Nobody touched up then.

You are a baaaaaaaaaaaaaad boy.

But you did such a great job of making her beauty shine!! And that makes her so attractive to anyone!! Would be a joy to know such a beauty, and to have the 'privilege' of taking her pics.

For the styles of today's youth, I think the outfit is just what she wanted because that is how she feels the most comfortable. I just wish I could have used clothing like that when I was a senior back in the late 60's instead of HAVING to wear suit or sport coat.

You did a very good job, keep practicing with her and see how SHE likes the results!

Now that is something I have not tried. Thank you.

If you use Carbonite to back up your computer files, you can get the Carbonite app for your iPad. You can then transfer anything from your computer to your iPad using the app.

But if you ever happen to pick another folder than what you have been using you just deleted all the current photos on the IPad and replaced them with what is in the new folder instead of just adding the new ones. What a great design.

Here's how I copy photos from my computer to my iPad, which requires no spcial hardwarae or software except what came with your iPad. I have a PC, but there must be a similar version of this method for a Mac computer.

1. Take the charging plug for your iPad and plug it into a USB port on your computer, with the other end plugged into your iPad.

2. This will cause iTunes to appear on your computer. If it doesn't, launch iTunes yourself.

3. Wait for the computer and iPad to sync up.

4. Under DEVICES in the left column, click on the name of your iPad, which causes 8 columns to be displayed on the right side of your screen, for the 8 types of data you can sync.

5. Click on the far right column, PHOTOS, then check the box labled SYNC PHOTOS FROM xxxxx.

6. xxxxx is a selection. You can pick PHOTSHOP ELEMENTS, which lets you pick all or a few of your subfolders defined in the Elements program (assuming you are using Elements). You can also pick CHOOSE FOLDER, which lets you select any folder on your hard drive. The last choice is MY PHOTOS, which means the PICTURES Library, and you can select all or a few of your folders in that directory.

Whichever folders you pick, they will all be copied, along with their contents, to your iPad, by iTunes. From then on, every time you hook up to iTunes, the folder(s) will be synched with their equvilents on your iPad.

The way I use it is to define several folders in the PICTURES Library, like Diving, Family, and Other. I created preset exports in Lightroom for those directories, already set to the optimum screen resolution for my iPad. I regularly export new photos from Lightroom to those folders, and manually delete old photos from those folders, and they get synched to my iPad whenever I plug into iTunes, a very quick procedure, which easily keeps the pictures on my iPad fresh and interesting.

Sorry Captain, I always do that, not sure why I didn't on that one. My statement was in regard to Kaven post. Almost all the senior photos I have seen for several years have been casual everyday clothes. If I were doing it I would have asked for her to bring a couple of changes but what she has on was not bad. Your remarks, as always, were spot on.

It helps if you Quote Reply so we know who "he" is. I did not expect a formal - just helping her improve by indicating the kinds of problems some tops present. Just because they wear it does not mean it photographs well. Bare shoulders and arms present problems.
Everyone is telling her how great these are and they really are pretty good. I am trying to help her see where to improve instead of all the pablum being posted. SHE says she values all the input.

Most of the posts do not help her one bit.

So - spot color is backwards, hands in the crotch are not good, bare shoulders are a problem, and railroad tracks are private property and shooting on them is dangerous and it is trespassing.

I don't want to start an argument here or make anyone upset. I am aware there are several ways to do it but none are as simple as they could be if Apple had not made it that way.

I have the camera connection kit and it works sometimes but most of the time it doesn't. When the IPad finally does recognize it the images do not show up, just like it were empty. I took it back to a very large Apple store and they kept my IPad for three days and initiated a Level 1, whatever that is, ticket but could never make it do what I wanted it too in an easy way, which was to just plug it in and go. I have tried many of the options in this thread and a few work after jumping through hoops.

Apple is a huge very successful company and should be respected for this but what iratates the crap out of me, and many others, is why they make it so hard to do something so simple as upload, download, and delete photos in the IPad. With a PC you can do it many different ways within seconds, no problems. I don't want to go direct from the camera, I want to upload images after PP. I don't want to have to be so careful about accendentally deleting every photo I have in IPad because I wanted to add 3 photos. For a company that has such a photographer following it is insane. I don't want to hear if you don't like it don't buy it, or mine works fine, you must be a dumb***, or anything else. If anyone thinks this is not a common complaint just do a Google search. The point is the IPad is a wonderful device, why make it so hard. Why can't you just plug in like a USB and download or upload what you want. That is the point.

Part of your charge should recover transportation cost including travel time. One of the philosophies of setting rates is charging what the clients will pay. I'd establish a sitting rate that represents one hour of shooting time. You need to include recovering setup and take down time of any lights. I'd suggest a sitting fee of $75 which includes the first hour of shooting and $60 for each of the 2nd thru Nth hour. For partial hours over 1 hour, just charge a $1 a minute. Yes, I know that this is way less than a pro would charge but you aren't one and you are not taking any work from a pro.

I did a search but could not find specifically what I need so sorry if it is a repeat question. I have been doing portraits for my friends and relatives for a couple of years learing from the experience plus here and other places. I am certainly not to a pro status yet but my work has really improvedl People are showing and telling other people and I am starting to get calls for sittings, both studio and outdoors. Almost always they want to pay something but I don't have a clue. Many of them don't want prints, just to post on the web. I would like to know what is fair for the sitting itself. Normally they last an hour or so unless we go to other locations. I will PP the keepers and give them a CD both in 300dpi and 72. If they want prints I can handle that cost, it is just the sitting I am asking about. Also do you charge more for small children, say infants to 3 years old? They do take longer. I am thinking 50-75, am I in the ballpark? Thank you so much for the ideas.
