At the last Olympics games there was a picture circulating around of a room with shelves all around the walls in the shape of a 'C' that were filled with Canon lenses and bodies. It was much larger than what this year's picture shows they are loaning. I know a photographer that has been hired to photograph all the water polo games. Between games, he can photograph any other activities that he wants. Name is Jeff Cable is case you are wondering. Canon does not 'give' photographers all their equipment. They must purchase it like anyone else. But they can borrow some of the lenses you see in that picture. Jeff has used some of the lenses before, but only the lenses that were so new that they weren't offered to the public yet. I don't know if there are any he will borrow at this year's games. After he returns from the games, he will do a presentation at the Canon Learning Center in Costa Mesa CA that I will be attending. He says that many of the other photographers at the games shoots jpg, but he shoots raw. After each game, he has 20 minutes to cull through the images he's taken for that game, crop, sharpen, adjust and send to his boss. I can't remember the program that he uses for this but it isn't LR or Photoshop.

My best guess is that he [Mr. Cable] is using Canon's own native software that comes (on a CD) with any camera you purchase from them...it's "DPP" version X.XXXX (depending on the camera model you get) to quickly/modestly review and make any changes prior to sending them to his boss.

Hi my name is Sherry and i would like to ask a for a favor. I am new to the photography world and i would like to purchase a dslr 📷 but i am not sure if i should get a Canon or a Nokia any advice i keep getting mixed review's. So any thoughts as to which one i should shop for.
Thank you.

First, welcome to the "HOG!". I'm sure many have already suggested this, but I would go into a camera store and try different models that are in your price range. See how they feel in your hand. And go from there.

I just took off my Tamron 18-270 from my Canon 60D and there are 4 screws on the track that if they come loose could probably stick the lens when turning it to get it off the camera. I hope you have good luck with whoever you have take it off.

If you could send the OP a picture of the mount end of your Tamron and he has or can get a large magnet, he may be able to align the magnet on the right point of the lens to try and pull the screw back into the lens far enough to remove it. Probably will need to do trial and error because it could be anyone of the 4. However, this should be tried with the lens pointed down (to let gravity help with this). And he may be able to figure which mount screw it is since he mentioned he can move it 1/4 of the way...just a thought.

Funny. Makes one wonder where Kodak might be today had their management had more vision and pursued digital cameras alongside their film business - may have actually helped them morph into digital storage/read-write devices. Oh well...now their mostly in the dust bin of history.

He's actually quite a good performer. I would like to see him sing the Clapton's actual song too. Although his remake is one for the ages.

If you can get to a camera store, try them both on your camera - in-store - and snap some shots, see which one you like better. If that's not possible, try renting them for a couple of days - LensRentals.com is a real good place to rent from. At a thousand bucks, spending a $100 to rent them both for a few days seems cheap. Good luck, I think you will like the results with either lens. The Sigma might deliver slightly better IQ wide-open at 600mm but other than that, from what I have read, both are great lenses for the price.

I would definitely keep the 80D and add to your kit. After the fact, (after owning/using a FF for a while) you can always decide then if you want to sell your 80D. You may find yourself only using one camera more than the other...

Keep us (or more pointedly: ME) in the loop on your decision. As I may have interest in your 80D if you decide to sell it at some point in the future.

Welcome to UHH. Simple answer, unless you are doing this for a living or desire to spend a lot of money I would go for the 60D. This camera is excellent for landscapes, has excellent image quality and all round performance. I own it and love it but check kenrockwell.com for an excellent site to get reviews. Good luck. George

Uh...the OP asked if he should keep his 80D and get a 5D Mk III either as replacement or as an add to their kit. They mentioned nothing about a "60D". I'll assume that the "60D" in your response is just a typo. And be in agreement that the 80D is a very good all-around performer, that has some "tricks" that the 5D Mk III does not have. If the OP wants to add a FF model to their lineup, I would strongly consider a refurbished 6D from the Canon USA online store...you can get them for a little over $1,000USD and they come with Canon's 1-year warranty to boot. Or, check Ebay, KEH, or B&H (used department). Or, if the OP is set on a 5D Mk III, they should wait a couple of months and see if the price for them drops more after Canon makes the 5D Mk IV announcement in a couple of weeks. Although the price for a 5D Mk III may not drop with any significance until the Mk IV's start shipping and/or even until after reviews start coming out...

I believe a new one is $2,500, with rebate, at B&H.

I believe that you are mistaken. It's the 5D Mk III that they are selling (sales price), body only for $2,599USD. They are also offering $200 rebates on the 5Ds and 5DsR, still at $3,499 and $3,699 respectively. You can currently by refurbished ones from the Canon online store for $2,799 for the 5Ds and $2,999 for the 5DsR (note: they are currently in stock and this is a sale price (i.e. they probably won't be in stock for long)). I think the OP is offering a good price for a great camera (for what it's worth).

I am aware of 42nd st. They have a bad reputation and terrible reviews. I would not buy anything from them. Reviews have included "gray market" bodies with no warranty's to missing charger and batteries when buying from them or credit card charges without shipping the item. The valid selling price for this body is listed on reputable sites such as B & H, Best Buy, Amazon, or even Adorama as 3499.00. I wish you good luck.

+1
I would never, ever buy anything from them either. B&H: yes; Adorama: Yes; Abe's of Maine: Yes; KEH: Yes; many others: yes. 42nd Street: NO. NOT EVER.
