I'll be happy to give you rant the exact credit it deserves. I have learned to identify those who espouse dogmatic and sanctimonious views that must be summarily ignored.

Let's add Defensive" to your attitude. I understand living on the Left Coast exerts a strange ambiance that takes, with some, the place of personality, Oh yes and civility as well. BYE..........

Tomball, could you please explain how being cooped up in the dark , by yourself and having introvertish tendencies, in any way makes you more artistic or even makes photography more appealing to anyone, but an introvert?!?!
SS

Sharpshooter, I have no idea where your head is, but obviously you have never sweated over a job, black and white, and a Bessler into the morning hours. Van Gogh cut off an ear, I gave up nights. Which today I look back on with pride and , "Oh to be that young again". Perhaps while you are assigning names (introvert), try asinine on for size.

You can say the same about being couped-up in a cubicle with Lightroom and Photoshop... Been there, both ways, and "bought the black and white T-shirts." I much prefer pre-processing to post-.

I just taught a first lesson in photography to a 12yo, who has an old model Fuji p&s. Her composition is actually quite good, and she wanted to understand the settings of the camera, because she knew nothing other than what camera setting said they do.

The first thing I explained was ISO/shutter speed/aperture speed (using as a demo my Fuji X-T1), and why you would want to have different shutter speeds and apertures (her camera does have PASM modes). I told her to put her camera in P, then try and vary A and SS (I couldn't figure out if that camera had variable ISO--it was all in the menus). Then I recommended David Duchemin's free ebooks on composition.

My 'tutee' is off on vacation now, and I am looking forward to seeing her pictures when she comes back.

...But these folks will never delight in working in the dark, seeing their shots appear on the enlarger floor, smell hypo and Dektol and roll their own film . It's not art any more!............C

What ever happened to your ''Imagination, Brain, and Eye along with Trial and Error". Too bad we still don't operate REAL Honest To Goodness dark rooms where time meant nothing! They have an Operating Manual that came with their machine. Suggest, strongly, that they study it. Mark things like they did in English class. Yes English class cuz photography is a language, an art and a hobby. Take your pick!

It's like they say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" The 28-105mm is one heck of a good lens. Mine is very sharp focusing and has superb color rendition. I own three or four Tamron lenses and all of them are very good.

How do you like your K10d?

I guess that it's part of the family. It seems to hand me something new each time I use it, almost thinks for me. There was a time when the K10d was top shelf. From then to now, I've never been sorry I made the purchase. I also own a virtually brand new Tamron 70X300 that, perhaps, I should put to use, But the 28X105 does such a good job, it stays in the drawer along with other rarely used peripherals. Thanks for the notice---perhaps you've given me reason to be "adventurous". By the way, the scars are from attempting to get out of the Ni/Ca Cabal's way who seem to like to throw rocks at anyone who's camera doesn't state their similarity............C

Agreed about the #28xxxx prefix! I have four Series 1, 70-210mm Vivitars, two made by Komine, one by Cosina and one by Kiron. I also have several others of different focal lengths and not a bad one in the bunch. One of the sharpest lenses I own is a Kobori-made (#77xxxx) 80-200mm Vivitar. These amazing lenses can be had for a pittance on eBay. Recently, I bought a basically NIB 28-85mm macro Vivitar that is superb! So many lenses.... so little time!

Unfortunately we are surrounded by a cabal of "experts" that believe their gospel is sacred. I drive a Pentax K10d with a Tamron 28X105 almost permanently locked into it's body. The lens dates back to my first auto body Pentax and has done yeoman work through three K mount, Pentax boidies. Now deep into retirement and living on a managed(!)income I have no intention of shopping--either cuz I could nor would. This lens works for me.

Am I, Ear Worms, to assume that anyone who counters to your lack of tolerance should pull the covers over their head and shout, "Goodbye Cruel World?" You exact a high cost for the privilege of countering to your narrow mind or lack of memory. Seems, when the Nets put this thing together, years ago, comedy was for fun, non political and SNL, we all waited for it, was where the politicians got the (Good Old Louisiana description) Red Ass??!!
