Hey, you Pentaxians.....

Do any of you who shoot a Pentax use Vivitar lenses? If so, do you have any personal experience with those made by Bauer.... ones that begin with the serial # 42xxxx? I own several Vivitar lenses and have a high regard for all of them, some more so than others. A local pawn shop has a very clean 28mm Vivitar with serial # 42xxxx. The lens itself is very well thought-of from what I gather, but no mention was made of those made by Bauer.

Thanks for any info you may be able to pass along.

I have never seen or heard anything about Bauer/Vivitar lenses - I would have to think they are very low on the ladder .....Give me a Series one with a Komine 28 prefix anyday .

Agreed about the #28xxxx prefix! I have four Series 1, 70-210mm Vivitars, two made by Komine, one by Cosina and one by Kiron. I also have several others of different focal lengths and not a bad one in the bunch. One of the sharpest lenses I own is a Kobori-made (#77xxxx) 80-200mm Vivitar. These amazing lenses can be had for a pittance on eBay. Recently, I bought a basically NIB 28-85mm macro Vivitar that is superb! So many lenses.... so little time!

Unfortunately we are surrounded by a cabal of "experts" that believe their gospel is sacred. I drive a Pentax K10d with a Tamron 28X105 almost permanently locked into it's body. The lens dates back to my first auto body Pentax and has done yeoman work through three K mount, Pentax boidies. Now deep into retirement and living on a managed(!)income I have no intention of shopping--either cuz I could nor would. This lens works for me.

Really! I thought the same thing. Apparently, Pentaxians do not dwell here.

I have the Tamron 28-105mm lens, but prefer my Tamron 28-200mm. It's sharper and the extra reach and 1:4 close-focusing feature provide more overall usefulness for me. As of late, I've had a FA-100mm f:2.8 macro permanently "locked" to my K-50 body.

I have one of the old 28mm f/2.5 (Kiron???). I don't use it with digital. I was never too impressed with its results on film. No experience with any other Vivitars.

If the Vivitar 28mm is a "mini-wide," you might be surprised at how well it performs on a DSLR. Mine renders greens better than any lens I own. It has somewhat of a cult-following. I love Vivitar lenses, as a whole.... especially their close-focusing ones.

It's like they say, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" The 28-105mm is one heck of a good lens. Mine is very sharp focusing and has superb color rendition. I own three or four Tamron lenses and all of them are very good.

How do you like your K10d?

The one I have is neither close focusing nor "mini". At f/2.5 it is a true oddball.

We are here, but we are soft and silent. And shoot with unerring concentration.

I guess that it's part of the family. It seems to hand me something new each time I use it, almost thinks for me. There was a time when the K10d was top shelf. From then to now, I've never been sorry I made the purchase. I also own a virtually brand new Tamron 70X300 that, perhaps, I should put to use, But the 28X105 does such a good job, it stays in the drawer along with other rarely used peripherals. Thanks for the notice---perhaps you've given me reason to be "adventurous". By the way, the scars are from attempting to get out of the Ni/Ca Cabal's way who seem to like to throw rocks at anyone who's camera doesn't state their similarity............C
