Well, apart from chucking them in the composting, I thought that it was time that I started to look at improving my indoor close-up skills.
I've been looking at ways to get even light distribution for when I use my bellows, so I picked up a small white garbage bin which caught my eye in the supermarket before Christmas and decided to see how well it worked as a flash diffuser.
Goofed around a bit with the "kit" 28-60mm FE, processed with ON1 2021.
After checking the diffuser with the roses inside, tried with the flash inside and the subject on top (a bit like a light table), then used the flash direct.
Flash was off-camera, using a wireless trigger.
I have only posted these to show the different lighting options I used, so composition, backgrounds etc., have not been optimized. Clearly I would put them on a different background if I wanted to make them useable.
Some of the images were desaturated slightly.
Please feel free to comment/critique the method and the resulting images.

Both beautiful! I like the detail in #1 and softness in #2...if that makes sense.

The Ladybug is one of those insects that most children can easily identify and watch with wonder as they crawl on their hand.

Well, I wonder if they would think of them in their nymph stage the same way. These look more like a dragon than they do the bright red polka dotted insect of the nursery rhyme fame.

They do indeed look like dragons..or gators! Gorgeous shot, Sippy!

Absolutely beautiful, Sippy!! What a thrill it is to find one of these creatures, and I'm glad they're chewers and not biters! 😬

Hey, why you laughing? So what? I am a very fierce 4 inches!!! - - - - - Well the bugs fear me...mutter, mutter...

Now go away, you distract me from keeping an eye on that dog. She usually chases me but today she is just sitting there watching me and I don't trust her. It may be a trick to catch me off guard.

This little guy was sitting on the retaining wall near a bird feeding area. I think (s)he was catching the little insects around the bird food in the morning when it was wet from the dew and attracts small insects. And my Jack Russell mix was sitting about 5 feet away just watching.
