As an additional note on this event - I was pleasantly pleased at the lack of photos being taken with smart phones and there wasn't an iPad to be seen.

There was one uncle who was sporting pretty serious gear but he was very considerate of me and let me do what I needed to do.

Hello all,

I've been around UHH for a few years now and recently got the opportunity to shoot a wedding for a friend of a friend.

We only shot at the couple's home (they've been together for 8 years and were just making it "official") and at the wedding venue. The ceremony, formal shots and reception were all at the same place.

I've attached a few of my favourites and would love feedback.

Cheers and Happy New Year to everyone!!

The new grip works very differently. The batteries are placed in a tray that slides into the grip from the left side (as seen from the back of the camera).

Also, there is an additional multi directional controller on the new grip and a "focus type change" lever. These give you additional functionality that the grip for the 7D did not have.

I'm happy with mine - fills your hand nicely and is very solid.

The full line of Canon cameras are all available throughout North America.
Not to mention they are all available through Canon's own e-store on-line.

With Canon, the more digits, the "lower" on their food chain.

The "Rebel" line is numbered with three digits outside of North America,

The 60D & 70D sit above the Rebels in features and capabilities

The 7D is at the top of the crop sensor food chain.

Then you get into their full frames:

6D is their "entry level" full frame camera - great low light performance and colour quality but fairly basic focusing system

5D Mk III - Professional camera

1D - Top of the Canon DSLR heirarrchy

Hope that helps

I have the grip for my 7D2 and I love it.
Gives the camera a more solid feel in my hand and gives you a full set of controls when shooting in portrait mode.

Doubling your battery life doesn't hurt at all either - just be ready for the cost of an extra battery in addition to the cost of the grip.

I have two of the new "N" batteries and two of my original 7D batteries. The new camera and grip both wouldn't recognize my Optech brand battery that worked fine in my 7D.

Welcome Tom,

If you check around, you will see that several folks here have done some of their own real world testing of the 7DII and have found the sensor much improved over previous cameras.

Is it as good as a 6D, no. But it certainly will perform miles better than your current 40D (which I still own one of and has been a solid performer for me by the way).

I do have the new 7DII and have done some testing with high ISO and I find it to be an excellent performer.

You will need to commit some time to getting familiar with the focusing system - this camera is a beast.

I just check the pdf manual included with the camera and on page 359 of the manual is says:

AF Point Display
When [playback option 3: AF point disp] is sent to [Enable], the AF point that achieved focus will be displayed in red. If Automatic AF point selection is set, multiple AF points may be displayed.

I haven't turned this on myself yet but it certainly still seems to be there.

Cheers and happy shooting from another happy 7D Mk II owner.

Nikon did not "get screwed" here. Even if they had charged him $15 for processing the order plus the cost of the part, they would likely still have been losing money on processing the order. What they did was provide good customer service and it likely cost them less to simply send the part by mail for free then to generate the paperwork to charge him for it.

It's like if you go into the Ikea location here in Toronto, they have a full wall with bins of hardware. You can just take whatever you need in case you've lost or been mis-shipped a part (which I've never heard of happening to anyone by the way). This is a similar form of customer service.

looks as though you had several acceptable ways to obtain a cover but chose to screw Nikon.

If i had done what you did i certainly wouldn't come up here on the forum and brag about it..

Not something overlooked at all.
If you look at the images of the new grip, you will see an additional "multi-controler" so that it stays within easy reach of your thumb in either landscape or portrait shooting mode.

I've ordered the standard BG-E16 I believe (the new one for the 7D Mk II specifically).

I like the way the camera feels in my hand with the extra grip and also it makes shooting in portrait mode much easier - especially when I'm using my monopod out on the ice.

The published shutter counts are what are know as Average Mean Time Before Failure" - meaning approximately half of the camera shutters will fail before that number and half will fail after. Again - it's just the company's estimate.

You could have a camera go for 200,000 activations and not have an issue. I just upgraded to the Canon 7D Mk II and my original 7D which is rated for 150,000 clicks has just under 200,000 shots on it. It will serve me well as a solid backup.

Picked mine up yesterday from Henry's up here in Canada.
I haven't had a chance to do any major shooting with it yet but it looks sweet.

Just getting familiar with selecting focus points and all that - I am definitely going to like this camera.

I ordered it complete with the 18-135 STM lens that I must say is completely silent when focusing but also got the 24-70 F4 L lens that Canon Canada was offering for only $400 more ($920 off the normal retail price).

The grip hasn't come in yet but I'm hoping it will be in within the week. Apparently only 6 Henry's customers in all of Canada have ordered the grips. Makes my life much easier when shooting hocker player photos in portrait mode.

Henry's is selling the 7d mark II body only for $1899 Canadian. This translates to approximately $1576 US.

Plus the are bundling the 24-70 F4 L lens with it for an additional $400 - quite a deal.

Henry's are very reputable. They are a fully authorized Canon and Nikon retailer as well as Apple reseller.

They also offer their own extended warranty program for everything they sell.

They have multiple locations across Canada.
