I have the 70-200 2.8l II I also have a 2 x converter.....I am saving my money for a 400 prime lens! I use the converter all the time but I have the extra stops to loose. Your lens is going to be to slow with the 2x to get good images. Or you will need to up the ISO and personally high ISO adds to much grain forget about zooming and cropping! You might think about renting something for a week... But then again you have to give it back and that is soooooo hard to do!

Hi Peggy
Assuming the lens we are talking about is the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM (it was not clear from your post)
wow that is a great lens, then following the thoughts of previous posters, it is probable that some net improved resolution could be achieved by use of a (or more than 1) TE

Did the auto focus still work with that stack?

The gist of this thread as I understand it is to determine which combinations of lenses and camera will benefit with improved resolution (not just magnification) by use of a TE

By chance did you compare shots of the same scene with the TE and without TE (digitally zoomed in computer to provide the same FOV. You mention "some degradation" but it was not clear what that was relative to
Thanks

It is good to see your post with facts rather than just opinion
Hi Peggy br Assuming the lens we are talking about... (show quote)

You nailed the lens I have, I own a 1st gen 2x teleconverter that I use 80%with the lens. I have auto focus with that set up and I shoot hand held.
You lose some light with this set up so there goes the speed also. I normally shot hand held so the faster shutter the better! If you zoom in 40/50 percent in to post processing you will notice a difference. With out the converter you can go 80 if I use a tripod. I have not set up and done any comparison shots but sound like a good project to try! I know just from my shots I loose quaility the lens just kicks butt mounted directly to the camera! You can't beat it if you don't mind packing it! Ultimately I will buy a 400 prime lens it is my next wish!

I have also stacked 2x 1.4x on my 70-200 2.8l II mounted on my t2i. Suffered image quaility, but that was hand held too. You know how long of a set up that is? and I believe it was all manual but you can do it!

Very catchy picture! I can appreciate not getting a background you are happy with but man did you turn that around! I really like it!

I love the story the picture tells. Well my creative writing mind, your picture tells! She is looking so thoughtful about what she is doing. Had you asked her to pose it just wouldn't be the same. My favorite pictures of my self have my canon in front of my face! :). That thing called work is just getting in the way!

I use a 10-22 wide angle canon on my T2i. Personally every thing is so tiny at 10 and lacks so much detail I prefer to stick around 18-22. Just mt opinion. A friend has the 11-16 Tonkina she really like it. I would search for both lenses on flickr and look at some shots. Maybe rent one first.

IMHO, you are taking way too much gear. Sherpa guide?

I've been to all four places & I'd take adequate memory & batteries, with the 18-300 and the DSLR. That's it.

I stripped the extra battery grip off my camera also when I went! It was so much lighter to use! Used the kit lens 18-135 one day then took my wide angle a day! Evenings the nifty fifty worked well!

I would google Douglas county waterfalls or northwest waterfalls and narrow it down to Douglas county. It shows if they are park and picture or hikes too.

Beautiful little Shetland sheep dog! I have a blue Merle also. Over expose gives the best eye color on Andy! Then some times one pass on elements, I use the guided fix portion as if he was a human. Which is actually an insult to this very smart little bred of canine.
Have you tried bouncing you flash off the ceiling or nearby wall that may help with the red eye mentioned.
