I am planning two trips. I will be driving to Prescott, AZ in April, and Honeyman Lake, on OR. Can someone recommend locations for natural history subjects within a couple of hours of Prescott, AZ. I am interested in habitats, scenic, and of course, wildlife.
The other trip to Honeyman Lake in Oregon will be in July. I am interested in any noteworthy waterfalls withing a couple of hours of Honeyman State Park. If you know of locations from either of these spots, I would appreciate any advice. Just a name of a spot will help as I can Google it and gather more info. before I leave.
I only want suggestions from people who have been to the places they are suggesting though. The waterfalls I am interested in do not have to be huge. I am interested in the vegetation, details in the ferns, bracken, mosses, rocks, etc.

Check out Silver Falls State park in Oregon. Its east of Salem on Rt. 214
I can't speak for Arizona but I bought this book for future trips.

Agree Silver Falls State Park. The park trails and all improvements were built by the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) many years ago (30's n 40's). A number of varied falls and surroundings. I think about 7 miles of quite negotiable trails.
Also many falls short and tall along the Columbia Gorge... falls like Bridal Veil Falls and many more.
I would google Douglas county waterfalls or northwest waterfalls and narrow it down to Douglas county. It shows if they are park and picture or hikes too.
When you get to the northwest waterfalls site and narrow down county open the site in google earth it has a layout and the information on the falls most include pictures

Echo here for Silver Falls. Here a two taken in the Fall with the Sigma 10-20 which I noticed you have. I haven't clicked download because of recent theft issues on UHH

I don't know why I had to smile and shake my head at that, but it's going to have a definite impact on UHH for some time.

In AZ, and a reasonable distance from Prescott is Jerome, a rather thriving ghost town, and Montezuma Well. You didn't mention how much time you'd have available for photos. So, these two are pretty close.

Beautiful shots of the waterfall
I second the Jerome, AZ trip Montezuma's Well trip & Add a trip up to the Navajo Reservation and to Tuzigoot National Monument. Also Sedona, AZ.

In AZ, Sedona is the spot. Call the Camber of Commerce to inquire about traffic before you go, it can be bad at times.

Nice shot. Reminds me of Workman Creek Falls in AZ.
Try Watson Lake, a city park on the northern outskirts of Prescott.

If you go to Montezuma's Well, be sure to go down the steps that take you behind the well to the head of the irrigation canal. Also, from the far side of the Well, you can see a cliff dwelling right under the rim where you first approached the Well.
Tuzigoot ruins and Montezuma's castle are both photo worthy sites.

Some of the best waterfalls in Oregon are almost three hours from Florence, including Silver Falls State Park. Depending on which direction you go and whether you can do a day's outting, there's Munson Creek Falls near Tillamook, and Toketee Falls east of Roseburg. Tillamook would take you up the coast where you might photograph the anemones in the tide pools, Devil's Punch Bowl, Devil's Churn--the northern half of the coast is quite dramatic. If you go southeast beyond Roseburg, there's several falls along Hwy. 138 and Rogue River Gorge and Natural Bridge. Either direction would be a day trip from Florence. And if you go to Silver Falls S/P, take Hwy. 126 to McKenzie Bridge and visit the Delta Old Growth Forest nearby, then continue onto Hwy. 22 to Silver Falls.
P.S. Old cameras, old skills, so maybe not the most flattering representations.
Beautiful hanging mosses on trail to MunsonCreek Falls
Toketee Falls east of Roseburg.
