Not kestrels, which are falcons (tapered, pointed wing tips). These are hawks (broad, 'finger-like' wing tips).

Photographed some kestrals (and a nosey calf) whilst on my walk. Very shy birds . Looks like mating pair has bred two offsprings.

It is possible that for some electronic reason, the converter is not communicating properly with the camera body. I would recommend using a Sigma converter or Tamron SP. I would also recommend using that lens with a camera body with micro focus adjust and adjusting properly !

Thanks imagemeister, yep shoot with 7d and 5d which has micro adjustments . Never had to use that function before ? Do I need to purchase a spider graph? cheers Dave

Hi having purchased a 120-300 sigma/2.8 os (not the sports version) I thought I would try a x2 convertor on the lens . I have had a set of cheep Jessops extension tubes and convertor for years in the cupboard ,never ever used or bothered with them! Model MC c/af1 x2 . What is puzzling me it appears I have not lost 2 stops of light as lens is still able to select f/2.8 or when you use tele-convertors does the camera body usually say f/2.8 but really is f/5,6 Is it possible someone as nobbled a circuit contact peg before I acquired them as given to me by a friend from Blackpool? Thanxs in advance Dave

The older version had only so, so IQ, especially with extenders, were it was very soft across the entire frame.
The newer version has improved a lot, but AF is still sluggish.

Thanxs for the reply. Interesting I was thinking about the convertors for Bird photography in India which would of extended my reach! Was thinking about the Tamron 200-600mm but blooming heard so many problems across other forums about freezing ,af issues thought the 120-300 may be the best route to go down.

Not a bad price if its in good condition, but you won't be hand holding it very long. That lens is best used on a monopod or tripod. The OS model was a big improvement.

Thanks for the rapid reply MT . Was toying with the idea of getting the new 600mm tamron but heard about so many problems concerning the 7d thought about giving it a miss for now!

Hi , thinking about purchasing a sigma 120-300 f/2.8 ! chap wants about £800.00 it is the non os model. Has anyone any experience with this lens ? My idea is to pair it up with a 1.4 x 2.0 x teleconvertors ,with the x2 should give me 600mm 0n my 7d . I know about the weight issue ! Wondering is it a fair price? Thanxs in advance.
