I have a Tamrac sling bag. It is comfortable, as long as I don't try to overload it (which I have done in the past). I think you'd be fine with that kind of bag and the items you named. I think I paid around $80 for mine.

These are snapshots of some WWII and NASA heroes that I shot last fall during a tour of NASA's Johnson Space Center. What always amazes me is how humble and down-to-earth they are - very nice guys. Not sure about you, but it's not likely that we'll ever do anything in the same ballpark -- maybe not even the same sport -- as any of these guys.

Left-to-right...
L.D. Todd-USAAF, WWII pilot, invasion of Okinawa
Maj General Boots Blesse- USAF, Korea & Vietnam pilot, double Ace, Silver Star
Colonel Eric Boe--USAF, Shuttle astronaut
Colonel Bud Day--USMC/USAF, WWII, Korea & Vietnam pilot, POW, Medal of Honor
Colonel Joe McPhail--USMC, WWII pilot, invasion of Okinawa
George Abbey--USAF, former Director of the Johnson Space Center, "father" of the International Space Station

Line up a bunch of coins on a long table or counter. Put them in a line with a couple of inches between each one. Then set up your camera and take a series of pictures from the same point with the same focus, but just changing the aperture from lowest number to highest. Then look at your pictures on your computer and pay attention to what is in focus and what is not. I found that a very helpful exercise to cement the knowledge in my brain.

If you are 62 or over, make sure you get an America the Beautiful National Park Senior Pass. It's good at national parks, national forests, etc. $10 for a lifetime pass gets you free entry and parking. National Park pass web site is http://www.nps.gov/findapark/passes.htm

I've been to both rims -- prefer south rim. Be sure you go down into the canyon and don't just see it from up on top. The perspective is so much different. We backpacked to the bottom and back out again in my younger days. It was an incredible trip.

I like your last one best. Try putting the information on the back and leave the front alone.

So you are saying leave the front as just a picture and put all contact info on back?

I'm the same...it takes me a LOT of effort to keep steady. I really have to concentrate to keep still at any reasonable shutter speed...let alone 1/60 and under. :(

A few days ago, someone was asking about a way to carry their camera that didn't involve a neck strap. I can't remember who it was, and I think others might be interested in this info too.

Always check your histogram to see if you have fall off on either end. Also, Bryan Petersen (Understanding Exposure) says to do a -2/3 EV as a rule of thumb if you are shooting a nature scene that has a lot of green. His is an excellent book on exposure.
